IMPRO'VBD SPRING-CHAIR FOR CHILDREN,

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom Iit may concern:

Be it known lthat I, MATHIAs STEPHAN, of Ganton, in the county of Stark, and State of Ohio, have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Baby-Jumpers, or Ohildrens Spring-Chairs or Seats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specication, in winch- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the jumper' or chair complete, and v A Figure 2 represents an auxiliary or adjustable fulcra spring for regulating the elasticity of the main plate-spring to the weight it is designed to carry.

My invention consists in combining with a bent platespring, npou the free end of which a chair, seat, cradle, or other contrivance for holding a child, is placed, an adjustable fulcra-spring, for regulating the tension of the plate-spring to the weight to be carried by it.

lO enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference tothe drawings.

A i'ame or base-piece, A, is first provided, that will be firm enough toY resist the weight and strain upon it without tipping over or upset-ting.

A frame of a V-form answers a very good purpose.

Upon the head B of this frame is fastened one end, a, of a bent spring, C, which, rst curving upward and forward, is then turnedv rearward, and upon its extreme rear portion carries a chair, D; or, instead of a chair, a cradle, or any other thing onor in which a child may sit or lie.

Under the bend or curve of this plate-spring C there isarranged an auxiliary adjustable fulcra-spring, E,

which is held to the base-piece A by a clamp-screw, b, and thumb-nut c, said' screw passing through a ulated or adjusted to the weight of the child or person who for the time being uses the chair, cradle, or seat, the thumb-nut c is run np,the spring E freed, and then, by moving it forward or back, the plate-spring is made more or less elastic or flexible, theso moving of said spring changing the fulcra of the plate-spring,

but upon an elastic point-or medium, the palm of the n auxiliary spring being upon its free end, and receiving and supporting the plate-springthere.

Having thus fully described my invention,

XVhat I claim therein as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-

In combination with the plate-spring C, the auxiliary y and adjustable fnlcra-spring E, for the purpose of regnlating the tension of said plate-spring to the weight to be carried by it, substantially as described and represented.
