' LADYS FOLDING GARMENT-FORM.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1911.
Application led January 13, 1910. Serial No. 537,804.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD CAHN, a subject of the Empire of Russia, residing at Fresno, in the county of Fresno,.State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Folding Garment-Forms; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of 'reference Vmarked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to improvements in ladies furnishings store apparatus and particularly to for ms for displaying ldresses and the like in the store or for window display, the object of the invention being to produce an adjustable form and one which is collapsible and capable of being packed into a small and compact package when not in use or for shipping or transportation purposes.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly eective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete form. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the bust portion taken on a line m-w of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of an interlocking joint member. Fig. 5 is aside elevation of one of the inner sides of a portion of the bust member taken substantially on a line of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a part of the hip portion. Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 8 is a top plan view of the other part of the hip portion. Fig. 9 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 10 is a sectional view taken on a line z-e of Fig. 8. Fig. 11 isl an enlarged sectional view taken relatively on a line A-A. of Fig. 8. Fig. 12 is a top plan view of the hoop of the limb portion. Fig. 13 is a sectional view of the lower part of the limb portion. Fig. 14 is a rear view partly broken out of the rear posts of the limb pora sectional view of one of said rear posts. Fig. 16 is a top plan view partly broken out of a brace member. Fig. 17 is a fragmentary view of two of the limb tion. Fig. 15 is 'portion posts showing method of locking them. Fig. 18 is a front view of two securing bolts.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, 1 designates the main standard of the device which'is hollow and movable at its lower end through and turnable in a sleeve 2 having suitable legs 3. Movable in the hollow member 1 is a rod 8 capable of being fixed in anystationary point in the member 1 by a thumb set screw 9 to adjust the form to any height desired. The upper end of said rod 8 projects through a hole 10 in a cross member 11 screwed on to al lower part 12 of the hip portion of the form and thence projects through a hole 13 in the upper part 14 of said hip portion and thence screws into a threaded orifice 15 of a projecting square shoulder 16 inthe center part 17 of the bust portion of the form, the shoulder 16 being received into a recess 18 in the member 14, which prevent-s the same from turning, the portion 12 being similarly prevented from turning by having pins 19 projecting into holes 20 in the part 14, the parts 17, 14 and 12 being held rigidly together when in position by means of a collar 21 on the rod 8 being impinged closely against the member 11 and held there by a thumb set screw 22. Eachside of the center piece 17 is provided with a slotted guide 23 into which are engaged bolt heads 24 on side member 25 thus locking said .side member to said center member the upper ends of the same being secured to each other by means of a cross bolt 26 having shoulder forming nuts 27.
The limb portion of the form includes three or more hoops 28 of varying sizes to give the desired shape.
31 are vertical posts having projectingv eyes or rings 32 engaging the hoops 28, the two rear posts being fixed stationary with respect to any circumferential movement on said hoops while the remaining posts are capable of moving around on said hoops to open position to unfold the same for use or4 to be closed together to permit said hoops to be folded together for transportation or storage purposes. When in open position the front posts are joined together by a bolt 33 and wingnut 34 (Fig. 17 The uniformly spaced open positions of the posts 31 are determined by chains 35 connecting said posts. The two front posts when in open positions have alined orifices each receiving a retaining bolt 36 on the member 12 provided with retaining nuts 37 which lock the said two front posts 31 onto said members 36. Similarly the two fixed rear posts have alined orifices receiving ak retaining bolt 38, having a nut 39 to lock said rear posts thereon. The two rear posts 3l are adjustable vertically on the hoops to give sufficiently to let said hoops fold up as above described, such adjustment being permitted by reason of vertical slots 40in said rear posts in which the shanks 41 of the eyes 32 of said rear posts 31 are movable having iianges 42 bearing against said rear posts 31 and having wing nuts 43 on the upper and lower ones of said shanks to set the same in any desired fixed position. When the posts 31 are in open position a brace frame 44 has pins 45 which fit int-o orifices 46 in corresponding ones of said posts 31 one set of said pins 45 being movable in the frame to permit insertion and withdrawal of the same, any fixed position of said movable pins being attained by set screws 47.
The pins 19 are pivotally mounted in recesses 48 in the member 12 and vhaving internal movable pins 49 projecting normally into the member 12 to hold said pins 19 rigid. When the device is to be folded, however, finger lugs 51 may be operated to disengage said pins 49 from the member 12 and then said pins 19 are folded into the recesses 48 the finger lugs 51 fitting into extended' recesses 52.
In addition to the collapsible and folding features above described it might be well to mention that the member 14 is so shaped as to t into the inside of the member 12 when collapsed by unscrewing the member' l1 which can then be replaced holding the said member 14 in said member 12.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen how all the parts of the form may be taken apart readily and folded into a compact package for transportation or packing purposes.V
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detailinay be resorted to as donot form a departure from the spirit of the invention. Y
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A form for displaying ladies furnishings comprising a bust portion consisting of three members, a slotted guide on each side of the center' one of said three members, a
locking means the inner side of each outer member engaging said guide, and a collapsible hip and limb portion connected with said bust portion.
ing a bust form, a collapsible hip portion thereon, said hip portion comprising two members one adapted to fit into the other when collapsed, and a limb portion on said hip portion. f
2. A form of the kind described compris-4 In testimony whereof I aiix signature in presence of two witnesses.
BERNARD CAHN.
