RAZOR-STEGPPING DEVICE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 8, 1911.
Application filed December 1, 1810. Serial No. 595,030.
To LZ1 whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, MILLARD F. Coons, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and improved RaZor-Stropping Device, of which the following is full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to razor stropping devices, and it has for its object to provide one with two arms articulated together, one of the arms being pivoted to the frame in which the stropping member is secured, a razor blade holder being mounted on the other arm.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specifi` cation, in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my stropping device in use; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the stropping device; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the frame and the stropping members, and without the arms and razor blade holder; Fig. 4 is an end view of the razor blade holder; and Fig. 5 is a sectional plan view of Fig. 4.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a frame 5 is provided having curved end members 6, strop members 7 being disposed at each side of the frame, -from the members 6 at one end to the members 6 at the other end, the ends of the strop members 7 being held between the end members 6, and strop fasteners S, the strop fasteners 8 eX- tending across the ends of the device with their terminals 9 bent inwardly engaging the inner sides of the end members 6. The frame 5 has a transverse opening 10 there through in which is disposed a member 11, having arms 12, one at each side of the frame A razor blade holder 13 has an eye 14 in which is disposed a member 1G, this member 16 having two arms 17, one at each end of the member 16, these arms l? being articulated to the arms 12 as shown at 1S. The razor blade holder 18 has two side members 19, having orifices 20, in which is disposed a clamp member 21, this clamp member 21 having two bent terminals 22 which are adapted to press against the outer sides of the members 19 of the razor blade holder 13. As best shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, each of the members 19 has a vHange 255, one of these lianges 23 being disposed at each end of thc razor blade holder, the flanges 23 serving as guides when the members 19 are moved slightly away from each other to permit of the introduction of the razor blade holder 24.
In using the invention the terminals 22 of the clamp 21 are rotated in the direction of the eye 14. This having been done the members 19 of the razor blade holder 13 may be moved slightly away from each other to permit of the introduction of the razor blade 24. When this razor blade has been inserted, the terminals of the clamp 21 are moved away from the eye 14 by which action the sides 19 of the razor blade holder are pressed firmly against the razor blade 24.. This having been done, the device may be operated as indicated best in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Inasmuch as the combined length of the arms 12 and 17 is greater than the distance between the transverse orifice 10 in the frame 5, and one of the ends of the trame, it will be seen that the razor blade holder 13 with the arms 12 and 17 may be moved to either side of the device so that the razor blade 24 may be sharpened against either of the strop members 7.
With my device an easy, free and clean swing of the razor blade may be obtained, against the strop member 7.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a razor stropping device a frame, a Sharpener member mounted thereon, a razor blade holder having a handle and disposed with its handle across the Sharpener member, the razor blade holder being adapted to be moved longitudinally of the trame, and two arms articulated together, one of the arms being pivoted to the frame, the other arm being' pivoted to the razor blade holder.
2. In a razor stropping device a central frame, Sharpener members secured one to eachl side of the frame, a pair of arms piv oted to the central trame, one at each side, a second pair of arms articulated to the first-mentioned arms respectively, and a razor blade holder movable longitudinally of the frame, mounted on the second pair of arms.
3. In a, razor stropping device a frame, a Sharpener member having ends and mounted thereon, :i razor blade holder disposed across the Sharpener member, two links pivoted to the razor blade holder one at each side7 and two additional links pivoted to the frame, intermediate the ends of the sharpener member, the second-mentioned links 10 being pivoted to the first-mentioned links.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence oi two subscribing Witnesses.
MILLARD F. GOONS. Vitnesses t EVERARD B. MARSHALL, PHILIP D. RoLnHAUs.
Gopes of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
