Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A11 8, 1911.
Application filed April 14, 1910. Serial No. 555,372.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, PHILIP F. LARKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Kensington, in the county of Vestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Registers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a register board for pool games and more particularly for a game known as pea pool in which sixteen pills are used to play the game and in which each player receives two pills, one of which he keeps and the other recorded on the board so that no discussion or confusion will arise as to the number of the second pill.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a. face view of a registering board embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a bottom View thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken on line t 4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a board which is of general rectangular outline. A pad 2 is arranged at the face of the board and is divided by the lines 3 into a column of sixteen spaces 4: in which the names or initials of the opposing players are written. The pad as shown is ar-angcd a slight distance from the left hand edge of the board and provided with vertical spaces for advertising purposes. The board is further provided with a number of horizontal guide slots 5, which are arranged in a vertical column and in spaced relation opposite the spaces 4 of the marking pad. The purpose of these slots is to receive the guide shanks 6 of the knobs 7 of the slides 8 which are arranged one upon the other at the back of the board and are provided with numbers ranging from 1 to 16 adapted to be moved into and out of registration with the vertical column of openings 9 arranged near the righthand edge of the board. The slides and knobs are secured together as a unit by rivets 10 passing therethrough. The front ends of the rivets are preferably provided with numbers as 12 corresponding with the numbers carried by the respective slides to which the knobs are attached.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
lVhat is claimed as new is:
A register comprising a base-board having a vertical series of openings near one edge and a vertical series of horizontal slots distant from said edge, said slots alining respectively with said openings, a pad-member secured on said base-board and having in scription receiving spaces corresponding to said slots and openings, a series of superposed slides on the back of the baseboard having their edges in contact and having characters on their faces adapted to be displayed through said openings, knobs having reduced shanks fitting in said slots and rivets inserted through the slides into the shanks to secure the knobs to the slides, the knobs having characters on their outer faces duplicating the characters on the slides to which they are respectively secured.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PHILIP F. LARKIN.
