YARN-CLEANER FOB SPOOLEBS,
JAMES B MAOCOLL AND WILLIAM B. MAOCOLL, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
SPINNING, AND SIMILAR MACHINES;
'lh all 'whmn it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMEB R. MAC-C011.
and Winona B. MACCOLL, citizens of the Uuitod States, residing at Providence, in the county of Prm'illeuvo and. State of Rhode island, have il'i'renlml a new and useful Improvmnejul; in Yan'1(lluu1'1(us for Spoolers, l-lpiuuiug, and i ilimilar Machines, of u-hi h tho follm. lg; is :1 r-auocilir'ali-jm reference living: had to tho z:rmuupauyiusg; drawings, forming para tin-roof.
' ion relates to in?'u'm'mnouta in :uluplr l in he u'mlu'ul to or form part of a in; a iwiuning or sii'uilar marhinv 22ml llil'flt' whiz-h llu'ourl or yarn may he drawn to eli'rrt. the cleaning of the thread or ya. 1:11 by the removal therefrom of sluha, hoada or bundles of fiber.
One oh iwl of the invention is to simplify the confirm-lion of tin-cad or yarn cleaners of thin moral doacription whereby the adjufwlmont of its parts is facilitated.
Other ol'vjects of the invention will rom the following description.
The iuronliou consists in certain peculiar features of c-ouatructmn and combination of hall hereinafter he more; fully do scrihod and pointed ooh in th claiina,
Figure l, represf'ouls a side ew of the im' proved yarn cleaner mounted, in operative poi-iitioii, on the traverse rod or similar ;up porting memhen shown in Election of spooler: the yarn being shown in position pausing through the cleaner. Fig. 2, repre sents a top plan View of the yarn cleaner, the yarn lacing shown in its normal position in full lines and 'the position of the yarn in threading the cleaner" being i11(ll(fil'0(l in dotted lines. Fig. 3, represents a back View of the improved. cleaner. Fig. 4%, reprosonts an end 'VlQW thereof showinga uiodified eonslruckioi'h Similar numbers of reference deisigrnate corresponding parts throughout.
As; shown herein in its preferred form the improved yarn oloanur is mounted on tho traverse rod of a spoolor or similar marhiuv and, for that purpose. is lurniahed with lhe oomplemental jaw members and 6 secured together by the clamping screw 7. From said in W member extends, upwardly. the arm 8 and in said member are secured the oylinlriral guide rod 9 havi'ig the flat upper face 10 and the conical end ll, and at a distance appear 12 having the curved end 13. Piv\ Lully Specification of Letters Patent. Appllcatiou fllod February 19,

mounted on the arm 8, to swing about an axis parallel to the guide rod 9, is the comb support 14 having the outer curved edge 15 and the lower bevel edge 1.6. On this support, 14 is vertically adjustable the comb plate 17, which having the upper bent lip 19 and the lower inclined edge 20 to which is secured the series of teeth Qil. whi -h extend approxi mately in line with the lip E and. at; an acute iuelii'mtiou to the face 10 of the yarn guide rod 9. i
In the modification shown in the drawings, which is partieularl adapted for cotton spinning or spoolihg machines, the guide Wire 12 is omitted and the periphery of the guide rod 9 is completely of lindrical. The adjustment ofthis device is extremely simple; the cre'w l8 islooseued and thecomh plate 17 is moved upward mit a thin gage plate to e placed between the guide rod 9 and the ends of the ieeth 52].; plate I? is allowed to move downward until the ends of the teeth 21 rest on said gage plate, when the screw 18 is tightened to cure comb plate 17 A yarn or thread b b, extending transversely of the plate M, is now pressed downward, being guided outward hy the rurved edge of said plate and by the curved end 13 ofthe guide Wire 12, and is brought between the ends of the comb teeth 21 and the guide rod 9 ahowu in Figs. 1 and 4 of the drawings. As the yarn passes along, to be Wound on a spool, any sluhs, heads or accumulation of fluti' on the yarn will he engaged hv the ends of tho iu-olined comh teeth 21 and will he thus removed, and held. Without action of said uomhleoth directly on the yarn. A the diameter of the spool is gradually increased all vary and thus the yarn will he promosswel v subjected to theact-ion of the clean com h teeth.
The plate 15 or comh sup 'iort may he swung upward from time to time for the amination of the comb teeth or for the remo al from said teeth of sluhs, l'lililClfiL M0,, and said plate may then he dropped hz'aok into its adjusted posit-ion.
Having thus (lQSCXllJEhll our invention we rlaim as new and desireto secure bv Letters l atonkr I; A yam cleaner comprising a frame having! a standard, a guide rod extending:
is secured by the screw .18,
sufficiently to peraeroas the guide rod 9 will grudu otally mounted on said standard and n0rn'mlly bearing against said standard, and a comb mounted on said comb support and having inclined (00th coiiporal'ing with said guide mcl, Sl'll)$$l'fl1]lllll as dvscribecl.
