Abstract

A box (2) (62) containing loose smokable material (4) formed from a one-piece blank comprises: a receptacle portion (6) containing loose smokable material (4) and having an access opening; a flap (8) integral with the receptacle portion (6); and a pair of opposed upstanding walls (30) integral with the flap (8) and extending at least part-way along the sides thereof. The flap (8) is moveable between a folded position, in which the flap (8) is folded at least partly around the receptacle portion (6) and overlies the opening, and an extended position, in which the flap (8) extends outwardly from the receptacle portion (6). The box (62) may further comprise an integral closure tongue (64) connected to the receptacle portion (6) and movcable between a closed position, in which the closure tongue (64) covers the opening and loose smokable material contained in the receptacle portion (6) is inaccessible, and an open position, in which loose smokable material (4) contained in the receptacle portion (6) is accessible through the opening. The loose smokable material (4) may be loose fine-cut tobacco for forming roll your own (RYO) or make your own (MYO) cigarettes and the box (2) (62) may be of substantially the same size and shape as a conventional cigarette pack.

Description

The invention relates to a box that contains loose smoking material and is made of a solid blank.

Finely cut tobacco for the manufacture of self-rolling (goiI ubig oml, AHO) and homemade (such as uoig om/p,

MU) cigarettes are usually sold in soft, resealable plastic pouches. Such pouches are often equipped with an elongated flexible flap that is folded or wrapped around the pouch to close it. Known pouches for finely cut tobacco are generally unsuitable for sale using known vending machines used for the retail sale of cigarettes in packs, or for placement in existing vending equipment used to store and display cigarettes in packs.

According to the present invention, a box containing loose smoking material and formed from a solid blank is proposed, and this box includes: a container that contains loose smoking material and has an opening for access to the interior; a valve integral with the container and movable between a collapsed position in which the valve is at least partially wrapped around the container and covering the opening and an expanded position in which the valve extends outward from the container; and a pair of opposed upwardly directed walls integral with the valve and extending along at least a portion of its sides.

Also, according to the invention, a box is proposed that contains loose smoking material and is formed from a solid blank, and this box includes: a container that contains loose smoking material and has an opening for access to the inside; integral closing tab connected to the container and configured to move between a closed position in which the closing tab closes the opening and access to the loose smoking material contained in the container and an open position in which to the loose smoking material contained in the container, you can reach it through the hole; and a valve that is integral with the container and is configured to be movable between a collapsed position in which the valve is at least partially folded around the container and covers the closure tab and opening, and an expanded position in which the valve extends outwardly from the container.

As used herein, the term "box" refers to an essentially rigid container. Such containers do not lose their shape and are of such size and shape that, after manufacture, they do not change significantly when the contents of the container are inserted or removed. Known rigid flip-top cigarette packs are essentially rigid and do not lose their shape. In contrast, known bags for cut tobacco are essentially not rigid and do not maintain their shape.

The term "loose smoking material" is used to describe smoking material that is not manufactured in the form of a smoking article, such as a cigarette, cigar, cigarillo or parts thereof, and includes, but is not limited to, materials such as rolled tobacco, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff.

In a preferred embodiment, this loose smoking material is loose tobacco, in a more preferred embodiment, rolled tobacco, and in a most preferred embodiment, loose fine cut tobacco. If the loose smoking material is rolled tobacco, the box container in a preferred embodiment holds from about 20 g to about 40 g of tobacco. In a preferred embodiment, the loose smoking material is not wrapped inside the box; it is in direct contact with the box container. However, the loose smoking material may be placed in a pouch, bag, or other wrapper that is placed inside the box container.

In the deployed position, the box valve of the present invention preferably provides a surface on which the consumer can handle the loose smoking material extracted from the box container. For example, a consumer may use the surface formed by the valve to wrap a portion of loose smoking material extracted from the box container into a wrapper to form a hand-rolled cigarette. Alternatively, the consumer may use the surface formed by the valve to stuff a portion of loose smoking material extracted from the box container into a pre-made tube or sleeve to form a smoking product. On the surface formed by the valve in the deployed position, it is also preferable to apply, for example, graphic images, text, company logos and other information for the consumer.

In addition, by helping to retain the free-flowing smoking material on the valve during handling by the consumer, the pair of opposed sidewalls extending along at least a portion of the sides of the valve preferably helps prevent loss or waste of the free-flowing smoking material when the valve is in the deployed position.

In a preferred embodiment, opposite upwardly facing walls extend from the container along the sides of the valve. In a more preferred embodiment, the opposite and upwardly facing walls are connected to the container. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the shape and arrangement of the pair of opposed and upwardly directed walls are such that the walls also preferably help prevent loss of loose smoking material from the container when the valve is in the collapsed position.

According to preferred embodiments of the invention, the valve is connected to the first wall of the container, and in the collapsed position covers at least part of the second wall of the container, which is located generally opposite the first wall. In a more preferred embodiment, in the collapsed position the valve overlaps the second wall of the container and at least a portion of the third wall of the container that is located generally opposite the opening. In a most preferred embodiment, in the collapsed position, the valve overlaps the second wall of the container, the third wall of the container, and at least a portion of the first wall of the container.

In a preferred embodiment, the valve includes two or more hinged sections.

The solid blank from which the box is formed may be made of any suitable material(s), including but not limited to such materials as, for example, cardboard, paper, plastic and/or metal.

In a preferred embodiment, the box is formed from a solid cardboard blank, and in a more preferred embodiment, from a solid cardboard blank laminated with a film, or from a solid cardboard blank laminated with aluminum foil. The use of a laminated cardboard blank to make the box can preferably help prevent staining/contamination of the box due to, for example, the presence of moisture in the loose smoking material contained in the container. Additionally, a laminated cardboard blank can be used to improve the appearance of the box. For example, if the box is made from a solid cardboard blank laminated with a film, the film may be metallized or have paint applied prior to lamination, for example to give a metallized or colored appearance when the valve is in the deployed position.

In a preferred embodiment, the box further includes a locking means for holding the valve in the collapsed position. The fixing means may include a tab formed on one part of the container or valve and a slot engagable with it in another part of the container or valve, the slot being positioned to allow the tab to be inserted when the valve is in the collapsed position. Alternatively, the locking means may include a first magnetic region on the container and a second magnetic region on the valve, whereby the valve is held in the collapsed position by magnetic attraction between the first magnetic region and the second magnetic region. magnetic properties.

In additional embodiments, the locking means can hold the valve in the collapsed position by adhesion. For example, the fixing means can be a resealable adhesive applied to at least a portion of the valve and/or container and which attaches the valve to the container when folded. Alternatively, the securing means may include two non-adhesive means which are attached only by mutual contact, the first of the two non-adhesive means being provided on the container and the second of the two non-adhesive means being provided on the valve, the first non-adhesive means and the second non-adhesive means being positioned as follows , that they form mutual contact when the valve is in the collapsed position. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the box may further include an integral closure tab connected to the container and movable between a closed position in which the closure tab closes the opening and access to the loose smoking material contained into the container, and an open position in which the loose smoking material contained in the container can be accessed through the opening.

In a preferred embodiment, the closure tab is hinged to the container along a hinge line.

In a preferred embodiment, the valve is connected to the first wall of the container, and the closure tab is connected to the second wall of the container, which is located generally opposite the first wall.

The introduction of a closing tongue in the design, which first closes the opening of the container, preferably helps to preserve the freshness of the loose smoking material contained in the container, before the first opening of the box, especially in a hot, dry or humid environment.

In a preferred embodiment, the closing tab is connected to the container with the possibility of separation. For example, the closing tab can be connected to the container along the perforation line.

After opening the box by moving the flap from the collapsed position to the unfolded position, the consumer can move the closing tab from the closed position to the open position, then tear along the perforation line to separate the closing tab from the box. Alternatively, the consumer can press the closure tab, which is in the closed position, to tear it off along the line of perforation, thereby separating the closure tab from the box. After separation, the closing tab can be thrown away. If necessary, the consumer closes the box again by moving the valve back from the extended position to the collapsed position.

In a preferred embodiment, in the closed position, the outer portion of the closure tab is inserted into the container through an access opening.

To assist in retaining the closure tab in the closed position, the boxes of the present invention may also further include a locking tab which is integral with the container and the outer portion of the closure tab in the closed position is sandwiched between the container wall and the locking tab.

Alternatively or additionally, a removable adhesive can be applied to the outer part of the closure tab, which in the closed position is inserted into the container, helping to keep the closure tab in the closed position.

By appropriate selection of blanks, boxes of the present invention can be produced that accommodate loose smoking material and have a variety of shapes. For example, the boxes of the present invention can have a rectangular, hexagonal, octagonal, oval, elliptical or "stadium" cross-sectional shape; the term "stadium-like" is used to describe a shape that includes a pair of oppositely parallel rectilinear sides connected by a pair of oppositely curved sides. In particular, the box of the present invention may have any of the same typical shapes as a conventional cigarette pack. In a preferred embodiment, the box of the present invention is essentially a rectangular parallelepiped. In a more preferred embodiment, the box has a rectangular cross-section.

By varying the dimensions of the blanks from which they are made, boxes of the present invention can be made that accommodate loose smoking material and have different sizes. For example, a box according to the present invention can be made in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped having dimensions of approximately 55x22.5x84 mm or approximately 55x22.5x100 mm.

In a preferred embodiment, the box of the present invention that holds the loose smoking material is substantially the same size as a conventional cigarette pack. In a more preferred embodiment, the box of the present invention for containing the loose smoking material may be substantially the same size and substantially the same shape as a conventional cigarette pack. In a most preferred embodiment, the box of the present invention has substantially the same shape as known types of conventional flip-top cigarette packs. It will be understood that cartons of the present invention, having the same size and shape as known cigarette packs, may preferably be sold in known vending machines used for the retail sale of cigarette packs and/or for the storage or display of cigarette packs in places with existing vending equipment along with cigarettes in packs. In addition, applying appropriate marking/branding to the outer surface of such boxes preferably provides the boxes containing loose smoking material with the same appearance as conventional cigarette packs.

Boxes according to the present invention may additionally include one or more compartments inside or outside its container for storing cigarette paper, lighters, cigarette rolling machines, or other similar items. In addition, cigarette paper packs for making self-rolling cigarettes can also be attached directly to the container or box valve of the present invention using, for example, glue.

If necessary, boxes according to this invention can be wrapped in heat-shrink film or wrapped in a transparent polymer film, for example, from polyethylene or polypropylene in the usual way.

Shown in Fig. 1 box 2 according to the first embodiment of the present invention, which contains loose tobacco 4, generally includes a container b and an elongated valve 8 connected to the container 6. The container 6 includes a front wall 10 and a rear wall 12 located parallel to it (not shown), a bottom wall 14 (not shown) that connects the front wall 10 and the back wall 12 along their lower edges, and a left side wall 16 (not shown) and a right side wall 18 that connect the front wall 10, back wall 12 and bottom wall 14 along their left and right edges, respectively. The walls 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 of the container 6 thus define a container with an open top in which the loose tobacco 4 is placed. To facilitate the extraction of the loose tobacco 4 placed in the container 6, a slot 20 with beveled opposite sides is made in the middle of the upper edge of the front walls 10 of container 6.

As shown in Fig. 1, in the deployed position, the elongated flap 8 extends outwardly from the upper edge of the rear wall 12 of the container 6. In its longitudinal direction, the flap 8 includes a first section 22 of approximately the same dimensions as the lower wall 14 of the container 6, connected to the upper edge of the rear wall 12 of the container 6 along the transverse bending line (not visible in Fig. 1), the second section 24 of approximately the same dimensions as the rear wall 12 of the container 6, the third section 26 of approximately the same dimensions as the first section 22, and the fourth plot 28 is approximately the same size as the second plot 24.

The first section 22, the second section 24, the third section 26 and the fourth section 28 are separated from each other in the longitudinal direction of the valve by three additional transverse parallel fold lines.

A pair of oppositely facing upward walls 30 is connected to the longitudinal edges of the second section 24 of the valve 8 by a pair of parallel longitudinal bending lines. As shown in fig. 1, the ends of the opposite upwardly directed walls 30, closer to the container 6 of the box 2, are connected to the side walls 16, 18 of the container 6 by the first pair of oppositely located folding intermediate sections 32, which have an "M-shaped" free edge The sides of the upwardly directed walls 30 located opposite each other, far from the container 6 of the box 2, are connected to the longitudinal edges of the third section 26 of the valve 8 of the container 6 by a second pair of folded intermediate sections 34 located opposite each other, which have outwardly curved free edges.

To close the box 2, the valve 8 is moved from the unfolded position shown in fig. 1, to the folded position in which it is wrapped around the container 6 of the box 2, by folding the first section 22, the second section 24, the third section 26 and the fourth section 28 along the transverse fold lines so that they overlap the open top, the front wall 10, the lower wall 14 and the back wall 12 of the container 6, respectively, and the opposite wall 30 of the valve 8 overlaps the left side wall 16 and the right side wall 18 of the container 6. The second pair of folding intermediate sections 34 forms a continuation of the opposite walls 30, which contribute to facilitate the connection of the opposite walls 30 with the third section 26 of the valve 8 in the folded position. The shape of the first pair of folding intermediate sections 32 also facilitates the folding of the valve 8 to close the box 2.

In use, when valve 8 is in the deployed position shown in FIG. 1, the upper surfaces of the first section 22, the second section 24, the third section 26 and the fourth section 28 of the valve 8, which overlap respectively the open top, the front wall 10, the bottom wall 14 and the back wall 12 of the container 6, in the collapsed position form an elongated surface or tray , on which the consumer can, for example, wrap a portion of tobacco in cigarette paper to make a roll-your-own cigarette or otherwise process the tobacco. The first pair of oppositely located collapsible intermediate sections 32 and oppositely directed upward walls ZO, which are essentially perpendicular to the second section 24 of valve 8, contribute to the retention of loose tobacco 4 in the upper surface of sections 22, 24, 26, 28 of valve 8 during handling by the consumer, thus preferably helping to prevent loss or waste of tobacco.

Fig. 2 shows a solid laminated cardboard blank 40, from which the box 2 shown in Fig. can be made. 1. It is clear that the exact order in which the various sections of the solid laminated cardboard blanks 40, 50, shown respectively in FIG. 2 and Fig. 3, folded and connected together to form the box 2 shown in Fig. 1, may vary depending on, for example, the equipment used to make the box 2.

For example, the blank 40 shown in Fig. 2, may preferably be partially pre-folded and pre-glued prior to final assembly to form the box 2 shown in FIG. 1. The solid blank from which the box according to the present invention is made, which contains the loose smoking material, may preferably additionally include a locking means for holding the valve 8 in the collapsed position. It will be understood that instead of or in addition to the interacting slot and cutout leg shown in FIG. 3, boxes of the present invention which contain loose smoking material may have other suitable known locking means to hold the valve in the collapsed position. For example, in blanks 40 and 50 shown, respectively, in Fig. 2 and Fig. C, a pressure-sensitive, resealable adhesive (not shown) may be applied to at least that part of the surface of the portion 28 that forms the inner surface of the fourth portion 28 of the valve 8 of the box 2 and/or to the surface of the portion 12 that forms the outer surface of the back wall 12 of the container of the box 2, so that after folding the box 2, the valve 8 in the folded position is glued with the possibility of separation to the container 6. Alternatively, zones with magnetic properties (not shown), the location of which coincides with each other, can be made in the area 28 and section 12 of the workpiece 40, 50 in such a way that after assembly of the box 2, the valve 8 is held in the folded position under the influence of magnetic attraction between the fourth section 28 of the valve 8 and the back wall 12 of the container 6 of the box 2.

Box 62 according to the second embodiment of the present invention, which contains loose tobacco, is shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. 5. For clarity, loose tobacco placed in container 6 of box 62 in Fig. 4 is not shown. Box 62 according to the second embodiment of the present invention, shown in fig. 4, has all the characteristic features of the box according to the first embodiment of the present invention, shown in Fig. 1 and described above. In addition, the box 62 according to the second embodiment of the present invention additionally includes a closing tab 64 and a corresponding locking tab 66 connected to the container 6.

The closing tab 64 extends outwardly from the upper edge of the front wall 10 of the container 6 and includes a first attached section 68 (not shown in Fig. 4) which has approximately the same dimensions as the cutout 20 made in the middle of the upper edge of the front wall 10 of the container b, which is releasably connected to the upper edge of the front wall 10 of the container 6 along the perforation line (also not shown in Fig. 4), the second middle section 70, which has approximately the same dimensions as the lower wall 14 of the container 6 , as well as the third movable section 72, which has rounded free corners. The first section 22, the second section 70 and the third section 72 of the closing tongue 64 are separated from each other by transverse parallel bending lines. Detachable locking tab 66 is connected to the upper edge of the right side wall 18 of the container 6 along the perforation line and extends outward from it.

The box according to the second embodiment of the present invention, shown in fig. 4 and fig. 5, can be made from solid laminated cardboard blanks, such as those shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3, however, which include additional sections and tabs which, when assembled along the corresponding fold lines in a known manner, form the closing tab and locking tab shown in FIG. 4 and Fig. 5.

During the assembly of the box 62 from the solid blank 50, the third movable section 72 of the closing tongue 64 is inserted or introduced into the container 6 of the box 62 between the fixing foot and the back wall 12 of the container 6 in such a way that it rests on the back wall 12 of the container 6, and the second middle section 70 closing tongue 64 completely closes the open top of the container. When the closure tab 64 is in its collapsed position, the valve C is wrapped around the container and in its collapsed position, finally completing the assembly of the box 62.

The locking tab 66, which helps to hold the third movable section 72 inside the container 6, thus keeping the closing tab 64 in the closed position, may be absent. In addition, in addition to the locking tab or instead of it, a removable adhesive can be applied to the outer surface of the third movable section 72, which in the closed position rests on the inner surface of the rear wall 12 of the container 6, helping to keep the closing tab 64 in the closed position.

The consumer can then separate the closure tab 64 and/or the locking tab 66 from the container 6 of the box 62 by tearing along the perforation lines that connect the closing tab 64 and the locking tab 66 to the front wall 10 and the right side wall 18 of the container, respectively, as shown in FIG. fig. 5.

The separated closing tab 64 and locking tab 66 can then be discarded.

Although the invention has been described by way of examples of boxes that include a valve 8 having a first section 22, a second section 24, a third section 26 and a fourth section 28, which respectively overlap the open top, the front wall 10, the bottom wall 14 and the rear wall 12 of the container 6 of the box when the valve 8 is in the collapsed position, and the boxes of the present invention that contain loose smoking material may include valves having a greater or lesser number of sections. For example, the valve may only have a first portion and a second portion that overlap the open top and front wall of the box container, respectively, when the valve is in the collapsed position.

Similarly, despite the fact that the boxes according to the first and second embodiments of the present invention, shown respectively in Fig. 1 and Fig. 4, have a valve 8 with a pair of opposed and upwardly directed walls 30, and a first 32 and a second pair of folding intermediate sections 34, the boxes of the present invention that contain loose smoking material may include valves having one or more of these intermediate areas or walls are absent.

Furthermore, it will be understood that although the invention has been exemplified by a box having a container having right-angled edges, the boxes of the present invention which contain loose smoking material may also have, for example, one or more rounded or beveled edges.

For example, by bending in a known manner the solid blank from which it is formed, a box according to the present invention can be made, which contains a loose smoking material, with "rounded edges" according to the present invention.

It is also understood that the outer surfaces of the boxes of the present invention that contain the loose smoking material may have, for example, graphic images, company logos, health warnings and other consumer information that are commonly applied to packages of fine-cut tobacco and /or cigarette packs.

Claims (14)

I. The box (2)(62), which contains the loose smoking material (4) and is formed from a solid blank (40, 50), and the box (2)(62) is a substantially rigid container, which includes: the container (b) that contains the loose smoking material (4) 1 has an opening to enable access to the inside; a valve (8) which is integral with the container (b) and is capable of being in a collapsed position in which the valve (8) is at least partially wrapped around the container (6) and covers the opening, and in an expanded position in which the valve (8) departs from the container (6); and a pair of oppositely positioned walls (30) which are integrally formed with the valve (8) and rise upwards from it, the walls (30) extending along the sides of the valve (8) for at least part of their length in the direction from the container (6 ), with which they are connected by a pair of folding intermediate sections (32) located opposite each other. 2. The box (2)(62) according to item I, which differs in that the free edges of the folding intermediate sections (32) are M-shaped. 3. Box (2)(62) according to claim 1 or 2, which is characterized in that the valve (8) connected to the first wall (12) of the container (6) 1 in the folded position covers at least part of the second wall (10) of the container (6), which is located generally opposite the first wall (12). 4. Box (2)(62) according to claim 3, which is characterized by the fact that in the folded position the valve (8) covers the second wall (10) of the container (6) and at least part of the third wall (14) of the container (b), which is located opposite the opening. 5. The box (2)(62) according to claim 4, which is characterized in that in the folded position the valve (8) covers the second wall (10) of the container (6), the third wall (14) of the container (6) and at least part of the first wall (12) container (6). b. A box (62) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it is additionally equipped with an integral closing tab (64) connected to the container (6) and capable of being in a closed position, in which the closing tab (64) closes the opening and access to the loose smoking material contained in the container (6), 1 open position, in which the loose smoking material (4) contained in the container (6) can be reached through the opening. 8. Box (62) according to claim 7, which differs in that the valve (8) is connected to the first wall (12) of the container (6), and the closing tab (64) is connected to the second wall (10) of the container ( b), which is located generally opposite the first wall (12). 9. Box (62) according to claim 7 or claim 8, which is characterized by the fact that the closing tab (64) is connected to the container (6) with the possibility of separation. 10. Box (62) according to claim 7, claim 8 or claim 9, which is characterized in that the outer part (72) of the closing tab (64) is designed to be inserted in the closed position through the opening in the container (6). 11. The box (62) according to claim 10, which is characterized by the fact that it additionally includes a fixing foot (66) made integral with the container (6), and the outer part (72) of the closing tab (64) is made with the possibility of insertion between the wall (12) of the container and the locking tab (66) in the closed position. 12. The box (2)(62) according to any of the preceding 13 items, characterized in that the loose smoking material (4) is in direct contact with the container (6). 13. The box (2)(62) according to any of the previous items, which is characterized by the fact that it additionally has one or more compartments for storing cigarette paper. 14. The box (2)(62) according to any one of the preceding items, characterized in that the loose smoking material (4) is a roll-your-own tobacco or a pipe tobacco, a pipe tobacco, a chewing tobacco or a snuff tobacco.
