Abstract
A method of rapid detection of influenza viruses and/or virus particles comprising a hemagglutinin and a neu-raminidase component, said method comprising the steps of: a) binding the viruses and/or virus particles to a support containing at least one type of carbohydrate receptor selected from the group consisting of natural or synthetic oligosaccharide, which is conjugated to, or situated in composition with glycoproteins like glycophorin, al-acid glycoprotein, a2-macroglobulin, ovomucoid, and combinations thereof which carbohydrate receptor binds to the hemagglutinin component of the viruses and/or virus particles; b) reacting the neuraminidase component of the bound viruses and/or virus particles with its labelled enzyme substrate, causing the generation of a detectable signal; and c) detecting the signal generated in step b).
