Abstract

A method for selecting pigs includes weaning of young animals from a mother as a stress-factor and provides selecting the pigs into a breeding group. Said group pigs on the 10day after the weaning have a live weight gain not less than x+1.0b, where x is the average weight gain of piglets in the group, g/day, b – the value of a mean-square deviation of individual values. The immunological response is determined according to the size of a swollen spot of a concha in one day after weaning of the piglets, and they are divided into three groups as follows: stress-resistant groups, in which the size of the swollen spot is varied within the ranges of 1.1-, stress-intent – 2.1-, stress-doubtfull groups – 1.6-. An ethological response is determined according to the index of aggressive behaviour for the first day after weaning; the piglets, the indices of aggressive activity of which have values correspondingly 0.04; 0.07 and 0.05, are believed to be the stress-resistant, stress-intent and stress-doubtfull ones.
