Abstract

The present invention relates to the meteorology. The proposed method of remote measurements for determining relative changes of air temperature by acoustic air sounding consists in transmitting harmonic acoustic vibrations in the vertical direction and in a number of directions arranged at an angle to the horizon plane, receiving the reflected acoustic signals, determining the propagation velocities of the acoustic signals in each sounding direction, and determining the changes of the air temperature. The method is distinctive by receiving the acoustic vibrations, which are scattered through the effect of the atmosphere, within the same timeinterval after transmitting the acoustic signals in each sounding direction, multiplying the amplitudes of the reflected acoustic signals by the correction factor, which is determined according the required measurement accuracy, determining the difference of the initial phases and the difference of the propagation velocities of the acoustic signals in the adjacent sounding directions, and determining the relative changes of the air temperature that correspond to the adjacent directions. When measuring the phase of the acoustic vibrations in each sounding direction, a Doppler frequency is measured, which is considered for in determining errors in measuring the phases of the acoustic vibrations. The measurements with transmitting the acoustic vibrations in the vertical direction are accomplished so the differences of the heights of the sounding in the vertical direction and the adjacent inclined direction were identical. For this purpose, the initial phase of the acoustic vibrations is measured at two points with heights h1 and h2 for the vertical direction and R1 and R2 for the inclined direction, so that the condition h2 - h1 = R2 - R1 would be fulfilled. The measurements results are used to determine the relative temperature changes by a specified equation. The present invention allows the measurement accuracy to be increased.
