Abstract

A process for the preparation of a 7alpha-methoxy-7beta-(4-substituted methylene-1,3-dithiethane-2-yl) carboxamido-3-(1-methyltetrazole-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid represented by the formula (1) wherein R1 represents free or substituted by lower alkyl ester, nitrile or amide carboxy group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, carboxy (lower) alkyl, a lower alkylthio group, a lower alkanoyl group, lower alkylsulphonyl, a sulfamoyl group, phenyl, oxyphenyl, benzoyl, free or substituted by lower alkyl ester, nitrile or amide or N-mono- or N’,N’-di(lower alkyl) amide carboxy group, pyridyl or 2-methylthio-1,3,4-thiodiazolyl-5. 7beta-amino-7alpha-methoxy-3-(1-methyltetrazole-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid of formula (II) is subjected to interaction with 4-substituted methylen-1,3-diethane-2-carboxylic of formula (III) wherein R1 and R2 have above mentioned meanings, or with functional derivative thereof, in organic solvent at temperature of from -50°C to room temperature.
