Abstract

A method for assessing drought resistance of winter wheat varieties consists in determining changes in root supply of a shoot as a ratio of the mass of dry matter of the roots to the mass of dry matter of the top part of plants of Mr/Mtop under the effect of soil drought at the stage of 2-4 leaves which is created by means of lowering the moisture content from 70% of total water holding capacity (TWC) in control up to 25% of TWC during drought of 7-day duration. The varieties in which root supply of a shoot under the effect of the drought lowers (up to 22% of the control) relate to non-drought-resistant ones, and the varieties in which this index increases (by 6-36% of the control) - to drought resistant ones.
