Abstract

The invention relates to electric engineering and can be used to extend life time of AC motors due to limitation of current and mechanical loads at start. An AC motor starting device comprises bidirectional switching devices having control circuits which form a regulator of AC supplied to a motor stator. The regulator uses length modulation with a frequency which exceeds the network frequency. This provides to decrease harmonics level in the motor current. In a reduced-current start device individual phase control of stator voltages of motor is used; three regulators changing phase voltage are used. Regardless of quantity of power switches, the invention provides for use switches having lesser breakdown voltage. The use of the propose device allows decreasing start current with start moment saving, i.e. to improve an index of mechanical moment/stator current (N m / A), and decrease negative effect of the motor start device on the power supply network. Both effects substantial decrease of harmonic distortions and asymmetry of start currents at start.
