Abstract

The present invention discloses a display device, which includes a display panel, a transparent cover plate and a coating layer. The display panel has a display surface. The transparent cover plate is disposed on the display surface of the display panel, and the transparent cover plate has a surface facing the display panel. The coating layer is disposed on the surface of the transparent cover plate, and the coating layer forms a pattern; wherein when the display panel does not display an image and presents a black screen, the pattern of the coating layer is presented; when the display panel displays an image, the pattern of the coating layer is hidden by the image.

The present invention relates to a display device, in particular to a display device capable of passively displaying text or/and graphics.

Taiwan's electronic technology, such as the display technology industry, has a complete upstream, midstream, and downstream supply chain from equipment, materials, and panel manufacturing to final machine design and assembly, creating a variety of products, such as mobile phones, tablets, notebook computers, wearable devices, electronic paper displays, car displays, etc., making life more convenient and richer.

In the existing display device, when there is no image displayed on the display panel, a black screen will appear, and no text or graphics can be displayed.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a display device, which can still passively display text and/or graphics when the display device shows a black screen.

To achieve the above purpose, the present invention discloses a display device, which includes a display panel, a light-transmitting cover plate and a coating layer. The display panel has a display surface. The transparent cover is disposed on the display surface of the display panel, and the transparent cover has a surface facing the display panel. The coating layer is arranged on the surface of the light-transmitting cover plate, and the coating layer forms a pattern; wherein, when the display panel does not display an image and presents a black screen, the pattern of the coating layer is revealed; when the display panel displays an image, the pattern of the coating layer is hidden by the image.

Based on the above, in the display device of the present invention, the transparent coating layer is arranged on the surface of the transparent cover plate facing the display panel, and the coating layer forms a pattern, so that when the display panel does not display an image and presents a black screen, the pattern of the coating layer can be displayed, so that the viewer can clearly see the pattern; in addition, when the display panel displays an image, the pattern of the coating layer will be hidden by the image displayed on the display panel, so that the viewer cannot clearly see the pattern. Thereby, the display device of the present invention can passively display specific characters and/or graphics without affecting the normal use of the device.

The display device according to different embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to related drawings, wherein the same elements will be described with the same reference symbols. The diagrams shown in the following embodiments are only to illustrate the relative relationship between elements or units, and do not represent actual dimensions or ratios.

The display device of the present invention can be a mobile phone, a tablet, a notebook computer, a wearable device, an electronic paper display, a vehicle display, etc., and the present invention is not limited.

As shown in FIGS. 1A to 2B , the display device 1 of the present invention includes a display panel 11 , a light-transmitting cover 12 and a coating layer 13 .

The display panel 11 is used to display an image and has a display surface 111 . In some embodiments, the display panel 11 has a display function and can display images; in some embodiments, the display panel 11 can be a display panel 11 that integrates touch and display functions; in some embodiments, a touch panel can also be provided between the display panel 11 and the light-transmitting cover 12, so that the display device 1 is a touch device with a touch function; , the present invention is not limited.

The transparent cover 12 is disposed on the display surface 111 of the display panel 11 , and the transparent cover 12 has a surface 121 facing the display panel 11 . In some embodiments, the light-transmitting cover plate 12 is made of light-transmitting material, and can be a rigid board, a flexible board or a composite board. In some embodiments, the transparent cover plate 12 may be, for example but not limited to, a glass substrate or a polyimide (PI) substrate. The light-transmitting cover plate 12 of this embodiment is a glass substrate as an example.

The coating layer 13 is disposed on the surface 121 (back side) of the transparent cover 12 , and the coating layer 13 forms a pattern. Wherein, the pattern may include graphics or text, or both graphics and text, without limitation. In some embodiments, the pattern may be, for example, a logo. In some embodiments, a pattern including graphics and/or characters can be fabricated on the surface 121 of the transparent cover plate 12 facing the display surface 111 by using, for example, a sputtering process.

When the display panel 11 of the present invention displays an image, as shown in FIG. 1A , the pattern of the coating layer 13 will be hidden by the image displayed on the display panel 11, and the user can hardly see the pattern of the coating layer 13 (invisible) because of the image. In addition, as shown in FIG. 2A , when the display panel 11 of the present invention does not display an image, for example, when the power of the display panel 11 is turned off due to shutdown or standby time exceeding the screen timeout setting, and a black screen appears, the pattern of the coating layer 13 can be displayed. Here, when the display panel 11 does not display an image, the display surface 111 will appear black (black screen), therefore, the pattern of the coating layer 13 will appear due to external ambient light and become a visible (visible) pattern, thereby passively displaying patterns, such as passively displaying company logos (Logo).

In some embodiments, the color of the coating layer 13 can be a color other than black, which can be, for example, a contrasting color of black or close to a contrasting color, such as but not limited to white or gray; in some embodiments, the pattern of the coating layer 13 can be a gray pattern, and the gray pattern can present different viewing effects through different shades of gray. In some embodiments, the reflectance of the coating layer 13 may be less than or equal to 10%, so as to avoid the reflected light of external ambient light from causing the user to clearly see the pattern when the device displays images normally.

Please refer to FIG. 3 , which is an exploded view of a display device in different embodiments of the present invention. The display device 1a of this embodiment is substantially the same as the display device 1 shown in FIG. 1B. The main difference from the display device 1 is that the display device 1a of this embodiment may further include an adhesive layer 14, which is disposed between the light-transmitting cover plate 12 and the display panel 11. The adhesive layer 14 is used to fix the light-transmitting cover plate 12 on the display panel 11. In some embodiments, the material of the glue layer 14 may include optical glue (OCA) or optical resin (OCR), for example.

In addition, the technical content of the display device 1 a has been described in detail in the above-mentioned display device 1 , and will not be further described here.

To sum up, in the display device of the present invention, the transparent coating layer is arranged on the surface of the transparent cover facing the display panel, and the coating layer forms a pattern, so that when the display panel does not display an image and presents a black screen, the pattern of the coating layer can be displayed, so that the viewer can clearly see the pattern; in addition, when the display panel displays an image, the pattern of the coating layer will be hidden by the image displayed on the display panel, so that the viewer cannot clearly see the pattern. Thereby, the display device of the present invention can passively display specific characters and/or graphics without affecting the normal use of the device.

Claims (10)

A display device comprising: A display panel with a display surface; a light-transmitting cover plate disposed on the display surface of the display panel, the light-transmitting cover plate having a surface facing the display panel; and A coating layer is arranged on the surface of the light-transmitting cover plate, and the coating layer forms a pattern; Wherein, when the display panel does not display an image but presents a black screen, the pattern of the coating layer is revealed; when the display panel displays an image, the pattern of the coating layer is hidden by the image. The display device according to claim 1, wherein when the display panel displays images, the display panel has a region corresponding to the position of the pattern, and the difference between the chromaticity of the region and the chromaticity of the pattern is less than or equal to 5%. The display device according to claim 1, wherein when the display panel displays images, the display panel has an area corresponding to the position of the pattern, and the difference between the color of the area and the color of the pattern is less than or equal to 5%.
