Abstract

Aspects of the disclosure relate to a carrier for packaging a plurality of flanged articles, a blank for forming the carrier. The carrier comprises a top panel, a bottom panel and first and second side panels. The bottom panel is hingedly connected to a first side panel along a first fold line and extends toward the second side panel. A retention feature is disposed in at least at the second side panel for engaging an article. The bottom panel comprises a proximal panel portion hingedly connected to a distal panel portion along a second fold line. The second fold line extends parallel to and is spaced from the first fold line. The bottom panel comprises a retention assisting tab for engaging an article. The retention assisting tab is formed from at least the proximal panel portion and is hingedly connected to the distal panel portion. The retention assisting tab is disposed in alignment with the retention feature such that the retention assisting tab and the retention feature are disposed on a common notional line perpendicular to the first fold line.

Description

Carrying tools and embryonic pieces

The present invention relates to a carton and a blank used to form the carton, particularly but not limited to a carrier with a holding function for stabilizing or fixing an item in the carrier.

In the packaging world, cartons are often used to hold different items. The technology of cartons is well known and allows consumers to transport and store consumer goods. For cost and environmental reasons, such cartons or carriers must be made of the least amount of materials possible, and waste must be reduced to a minimum. Another consideration is the strength of the carton and its suitability for loading and transporting heavy items, so that the contents of the carton are safe and intact while inside.

The object of the present invention is to provide a carrying device with a holding function for stabilizing or fixing an object in the carrying device. And it is hoped to minimize or reduce the materials required in the production of carrying gear to comply with economic and environmental benefits.

The present invention aims to provide improvements in the field of cartons, especially cartons formed by paper jams.

A first aspect of the present invention is to provide an article carrier for packaging a plurality of articles. The carrier includes a top panel, a bottom panel and first and second side panels, wherein the bottom panel is hinged to the first side panel along a first folding line and extends toward the second side panel. A holding function part is provided at least on the second side panel for engaging an article. The base panel includes a distal portion hinged to a proximal portion along a second fold line. The second fold line extends parallel to the first fold line and is spaced apart from the first fold line. The base plate includes a retaining auxiliary flap for engaging an item. The retaining auxiliary flap is formed at least on the proximal end portion and is hinged to the distal end portion. The retaining auxiliary flap is arranged to be aligned with the retaining functional part, so that the retaining auxiliary flap and the retaining functional part are disposed on a common imaginary line perpendicular to the first folding line.

Optionally, the common imaginary line may pass through a longitudinal midpoint of the hinge between the tire retaining auxiliary flap and the distal end.

Optionally, the common imaginary line may pass through a center of the article joined by the retention auxiliary flap.

A second aspect of the present invention is to provide a green sheet for forming a carrier. The green sheet includes a plurality of panels used to form the walls of the carrier. The plates include a top plate, a bottom plate and first and second side plates. The bottom panel is hinged to the first side panel along a first fold line and extends toward the second side panel. A holding function part is provided at least on the second side panel for engaging an article. The base panel includes a distal portion hinged to a proximal portion along a second fold line. The retaining auxiliary flap is arranged to be aligned with the retaining functional part, so that the retaining auxiliary flap and the retaining functional part are disposed on a common imaginary line perpendicular to the first folding line.

A third aspect of the present invention is to provide an article carrier for packaging one or more articles. The article carrier includes a plurality of panels used to form wall panels of a tubular structure. Please refer to the plan view of Figure 1, which is a blank 10 that can be used to form a carton or carrier 90. Referring now to FIG. 1 , a green sheet 10 is used to form a carton 90 (see FIG. 2 ) according to the first embodiment. The green sheet 10 is adapted to accommodate four items B arranged in a 2 x 2 matrix or arrangement. The green sheet 10 includes four top engaging structures T. The respective structures of the top joining structures T are basically similar, and relevant descriptions may refer to a top joining structure T located on the second side panel 20 .

Each of the top joining structures T includes an opening A1 defined by a cutting line or severing line 30 (see FIG. 2 ). The cutting line 30 is at least pressed from the second side panel 20 . Optionally, the shape of the cutting line 30 is curved or arched. The cutting line 30 bifurcates the folding line 19 between the top panel 18 and the second side panel 20 . When the second side panel 20 is folded around the folding line 19 and the corresponding top panel 18 , the cutting line 30 opens to form an opening A1 that can accommodate a portion of an item B. In the illustrated embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2 , the opening A1 receives a flange portion F of an item B.

Each of the cutting lines 30 defines a convex portion P extending from an edge of the top plate piece 18 and being integrally formed therewith. The convex portions P are pressed from the material of the second side panel 20 . In this way, the convex portions P can be regarded as being pressed from one of the first and second side plates 16 and 20 . Each of the convex portions P forms a protective top cover for a portion of an article B, and a portion of the article B is received in the opening A1 formed by folding the side panels 16 and 20 , see FIG. 2 .

The green sheet 10 may include at least one heel joining structure H1/H2 for joining a heel or bottom of an article B. The green sheet 10 shown in FIG. 1 includes four heel joint structures H1/H2 each used to join a corresponding article B. The green sheet 10 includes a pair of first heel joining structures H1 and a pair of second heel joining structures H2. The respective structures of the first heel joint structures H1 are basically similar, and the relevant description may refer to one of the first heel joint structures H1 located on the first side panel 16 . The respective structures of the second heel joint structures H2 are basically similar, and the relevant description may refer to one of the second heel joint structures H2 located on the second side panel 20 .

The first heel engaging structure H1 includes a retaining tab 44 . The retaining tab 44 is at least partially defined by a first cutting or severing line 47 . The first cutting line 47 bifurcates the folding line 15 that hinges the first side panel 16 to the proximal end 14 of the first bottom panel 12/14. The first cutting line 47 may be non-linear, formed by at least two divergently arranged and continuous linear cutting lines relative to each other, or the first cutting line 47 may be curved or arched. In the embodiment shown, the first cutting line 47 is substantially "U" shaped. A second cutting or cutting line 49 may extend from the first cutting line 47; the second cutting or cutting line 49 may extend from the middle part or midpoint of the first cutting line 47. The second cutting or cutting line 49 can be set substantially perpendicular to the direction of the folding line 15 .

The first retaining flap 44 may include a pair of divergently disposed cutting lines 45a, 45b, wherein the cutting lines define folding lines such that the corners of the first retaining flap 44 may be folded generally therearound. The cutting lines 45a and 45b are configured to converge toward the first cutting line 47. It should be understood that the cut lines 45a, 45b may be replaced by folding or scoring lines to provide a hinge between each corner portion and the first retaining tab 44.

The first retaining tab 44 is hinged to the proximal end 14 of the first base panel 12/14 by a hinge in the form of a third fold line 43. The third fold line 43 may be non-linear or curved.

The second heel engaging structure H2 includes a second retaining tab 50 . The second retaining tab 50 is at least partially defined by a first cutting or severing line 53 . The first cutting line 53 bifurcates the folding line 21 that hinges the second side panel 20 to the first bottom panel 22 . The first cutting line 53 may be non-linear, formed by at least two divergent and continuous linear cutting lines arranged relative to each other, or the first cutting line 53 may be curved or arched. In the embodiment shown, the first cutting line 53 is substantially "U" shaped. The second retaining flap 50 may include a pair of divergently disposed cutting lines 53, 55, wherein the cutting lines define folding lines such that the corners of the second retaining flap 50 may be folded generally about them. The cutting lines 53 and 55 are configured to converge toward the first cutting line 53 . It should be understood that such The cut lines 53, 55 may be replaced by folding or scoring lines to provide a hinge between the second retaining tabs 50 at each corner.

The second retaining flap 50 is hinged to the second bottom panel 22 by a hinge in the form of a fold line 51 . The fold line 51 may be non-linear or curvilinear.

The green sheet 10 may include at least another third heel joining structure H3 for joining a heel or bottom of an article B. The green sheet 10 shown in FIG. 1 includes two other heel joint structures H3 each used to join the corresponding article B. The respective structures of the third heel joint structures H3 are basically similar, and the relevant description may refer to one of the third heel joint structures H3 located on the first base plate 12/14.

The third heel engaging structure H3 includes a retaining auxiliary flap 40 . The retaining auxiliary flap 40 is at least partially defined by a first cutting or severing line 42a. The first cutting line 42a bifurcates the folding line 13 hinged from the distal end 12 of the first bottom panel 12/14 to the proximal end 14 of the first bottom panel 12/14. The first cutting line 42a may be non-linear, formed by at least two divergent and continuous linear cutting lines arranged relative to each other, or the first cutting line 42a may be curved or arched. In the illustrated embodiment, the first cutting line 42a is substantially "U" shaped.

The retaining auxiliary flap 40 may include a pair of divergently arranged cutting lines 41a, 41b, wherein the cutting lines define folding lines such that the corner portions of the retaining auxiliary flap 40 may be folded substantially around them. The cutting lines 41a and 41b are configured to converge toward the first cutting line 42a. It should be understood that the cutting lines 41a, 41b can be replaced by folding or scoring lines to provide a hinge between each corner portion and the retaining auxiliary flap 40.

The retaining auxiliary flap 40 is hinged to the distal end 12 of the first base panel 12/14 by a hinge in the form of a third fold line 42b. The third fold line 42b may be non-linear or curved.

Optionally, the green sheet 10 may include an access device in the form of a tear strip. The tear strip is at least partially defined by a pair of cutting lines T1 and T2 defined on the first side panel 16 . Turning to the structure of the carton 90 in the embodiment of Figure 2, the carton 90 may be formed using a series of consecutive folding operations on a linear packaging machine so that the carton 90 does not need to be rotated or inverted to complete its construction. The folding procedure is not limited to the description below and may vary based on specific manufacturing requirements.

The embodiment of Figure 2 shows a type of item B that has been assembled; four items B are arranged in a 2 x 2 matrix. The top panel 18 of the green sheet 10 is disposed above the group of items B to provide a top wall 18 of the carton 90 . Figure 2 shows the assembled carton 90.

The flange portion F of each item B is at least partially received in the opening A1 of the top joining structure T. In the embodiment shown, the items B are separate or provided as individual cups immediately inside their adjacent neighbours.
