In order to enable those who are familiar with the general skills in the technical field to which this disclosure belongs to have a better understanding of this disclosure, the preferred embodiments of this disclosure are listed below, together with the accompanying drawings, to describe in detail the composition and effects of this disclosure .

Some embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a display including a liquid crystal switch panel. The display target of the display can be switched by opening or closing the LCD switching panel. The liquid crystal switch panel of some embodiments of the present disclosure can produce less moiré, have lower resistance, and have no problem of color shift. Therefore, when using the display according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, user experience can be improved.

FIG. 1 depicts a side view of a display 10 according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. The display 10 includes a display panel 100 , an optical film stack 200 , a liquid crystal switch panel 300 and a polarizer 400 . The liquid crystal switch panel 300 is located on the display panel 100 . In some implementations, the liquid crystal switch panel 300 may be a non-pixelated switch panel, that is, the liquid crystal switch panel 300 does not switch between display and non-display in units of pixels. A single switching unit of the liquid crystal switch panel 300 (according to requirements) can be the entire display surface of the liquid crystal switch panel 300 or a block larger than a single pixel. The optical film stack 200 is between the liquid crystal switch panel 300 and the display panel 100 . The polarizer 400 is on the liquid crystal switch panel 300 . In other words, the display panel 100 , the optical film stack 200 , the liquid crystal switch panel 300 and the polarizer 400 are stacked from bottom to top.

The display panel 100 can be any panel capable of emitting or allowing display light to pass through, such as but not limited to a liquid crystal display panel, an organic light emitting display panel, an electroluminescent display panel, and the like. And the panel may include a polarizer to make the display light polarized.

The optical film stack 200 is on the display panel 100 and has a decorative pattern on the optical film stack 200 . The optical film stack 200 may include a phase retardation layer, a polymer cholesteric material layer, and/or other suitable layers. In some embodiments, the decorative pattern of the optical film stack 200 is disposed on one of the layers, such as a polymer cholesterol material layer, and the decorative pattern of the optical film stack 200 can be keyboard pattern, wood grain or other suitable patterns.

The liquid crystal switch panel 300 is on the optical film stack 200 . The liquid crystal switch panel 300 may be a non-pixelated advanced hyper viewing angle (AHVA) panel, so the liquid crystal switch panel 300 may not include pixel units for providing different colors of light. Moreover, using the AHVA panel as the liquid crystal switch panel 300 can make the display 10 have no problem of color shift when viewing the display 10 at any viewing angle. In combination with the alignment direction of the liquid crystals in the liquid crystal switch panel 300 and the polarizer 400 above, the display 10 can be switched to a display state or a non-display state by the liquid crystal switch panel 300 . When the display 10 is in different states, the displayed patterns may be different. For example, when the display 10 is in the non-display state, the display 10 directly reflects the pattern on the optical film stack 200 , so the pattern displayed on the display 10 is the decorative pattern on the optical film stack 200 . When the display 10 is in the display state, the decorative pattern on the optical film stack 200 will not be reflected, so the displayed pattern is the pattern displayed by the display panel 100 . The state switching of the liquid crystal switch panel 300 can be achieved by turning on or off the circuit in the liquid crystal switch panel 300 . In some embodiments, the polarizer 400 is substantially perpendicular to the direction of the polarizer (not shown) on the display panel 100 .

FIG. 2 shows a side cross-sectional view of the liquid crystal switch panel 300 in FIG. 1 . The liquid crystal switch panel 300 includes a first substrate 310 , a first electrode layer 330 , an insulating layer 340 and a second electrode layer 350 . The first electrode layer 330 is on the first substrate 310 . The insulating layer 340 is on the first electrode layer 330 . The second electrode layer 350 is on the insulating layer 340 .

The first substrate 310 is any suitable substrate, such as but not limited to a glass substrate. The first electrode layer 330 is on the first substrate 310 . In some embodiments, the first electrode layer 330 is a whole electrode. That is, the first electrode layer 330 does not have any slits or openings therein. The second electrode layer 350 is on the first electrode layer 330 . The first electrode layer 330 may be connected to a first potential, and the second electrode layer 350 may be connected to a second potential, so that there is a potential difference between the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 to control the liquid crystal molecules of the upper liquid crystal layer. direction to adjust the polarization state of external ambient light. In some embodiments, the first potential and the second potential can be provided by components on the flexible circuit board. That is, the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 can be respectively connected to the first potential and the second potential provided by the flexible circuit board. The first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 may be made of similar or identical materials, such as but not limited to indium tin oxide (ITO). The difference between the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 is that the second electrode layer 350 has a slit and the shape of the second electrode layer 350 will be described in detail later. The insulating layer 340 is between the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 and prevents a short circuit between the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 .

FIG. 3A shows a partial top view of the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 in FIG. 2 . It should be noted that in Figure 3A, the insulating layer 340 is omitted. The second electrode layer 350 includes a plurality of curved electrodes 351 and connecting electrodes 352 . In this embodiment, the ends of all the curved electrodes 351 can be connected to the connecting electrodes 352 . The first electrode layer 330 may be further connected to a first potential, and the connection electrode 352 may be further connected to a second potential. There is a slit SL between each adjacent curved electrode 351 . In some embodiments, the width W1 of the curved electrode 351 is in the range of 3 microns to 6 microns.

Each curved electrode 351 has a first portion 354 and a second portion 356 extending along different directions. The first portion 354 and the second portion 356 are connected together by a turning portion 357 , and the turning portion 357 is arranged along the first direction D1. In this embodiment, at least one of the first portion 354 and at least one of the second portion 356 have a symmetry axis L1 extending along the first direction D1, in other words, the first portion 354 and the second portion 356 are along the symmetry axis L1 is symmetrical to each other, and the turning portion 357 is located on the axis of symmetry L1. In some embodiments, the first portion 354 and the second portion 356 of the curved electrode 351 are defined as the electrode portion between one turning portion 357 and the next turning portion 357 . Therefore, the first portion 354 substantially only extends in one direction, and the second portion 356 substantially extends in only one direction. But not limited thereto, in other embodiments, the first portion 354 and the second portion 356 of the curved electrode 351 can be defined as the electrode portion between one turning portion 357 and the next turning portion 357 . At least a portion of the first portion 354 is symmetrical to at least a portion of the second portion 356 along the axis of symmetry L1.

The curved electrode 351 is electrically connected to the connection electrode 352 extending along the second direction D2, and the included angle a3 between the second direction D2 and the first direction D1 is an acute angle. In some embodiments, the included angle a3 between the second direction D2 and the first direction D1 is within a range of 10 degrees to 80 degrees. When the angle a3 between the second direction D2 and the first direction D1 is within this range, the moiré of the display 10 can be effectively eliminated, and the visual experience of the user using the display 10 can also be greatly improved. In addition, in some embodiments, the angle a1 between the first portion 354 and the line L2 is in the range of 84 degrees to 86 degrees, and the angle a2 between the second portion 356 and the line L2 is in the range of 84 degrees to 86 degrees. In the range between, and the line L2 is parallel to the second direction D2.

In addition, in FIG. 3A , the connecting electrodes 352 extend along the second direction D2 , so the turning portions 357 of different curved electrodes 351 closest to the connecting electrodes 352 have different distances from the connecting electrodes 352 . In other words, the second portion 356 (or the first portion 354 in other embodiments) of different strips of the curved electrodes 351 contacting the connection electrode 352 has different lengths.

356。FIG. 3B shows a top view of the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 in another embodiment of FIG. 2 . It should be noted that in Figure 3B, the insulating layer 340 is omitted. The second electrode layer 350 of FIG. 3B is similar to the second electrode layer 350 of FIG. 3A. The difference between the two is that in FIG. 3A , each curved electrode 351 includes a complete first part 354 and a complete second part 356 . In FIG. 3B , each curved electrode 351 includes a plurality of complete first parts 354 and a plurality of complete second parts 356 .

FIG. 4A and FIG. 4B illustrate the degree of color shift of the image displayed by the display 10 including the liquid crystal switch panel 300 . In Figure 4A, point A and multiple points B are plotted on a chromaticity diagram with normalized x, y axes. Point A represents the color observed by a user looking directly at the display 10 . Point B represents the colors observed by the user when viewing the display 10 in different viewing directions when the absolute value of the viewing angle of the user is fixed. For example, point B may represent the color observed by the user at a viewing angle of 60 degrees and viewing directions from 0 degrees to 360 degrees. The color difference between point B and point A can be calculated and shown in Figure 4B. In Figure 4B, in any viewing direction, the color difference observed by the user is very small. Therefore, the user can have a good visual experience when using the display 10 to watch images.

FIG. 5 shows a top view of the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350' in some other embodiments. The second electrode layer 350' is similar to the second electrode layer 350 of FIG. 3A. The difference is that the second electrode layer 350' further includes a strip electrode 358, and the strip electrode 358 is connected to the turning portion 357. Specifically, the strip electrodes 358 connect the turning portions 357 of adjacent curved electrodes 351 together, and the strip electrodes 358 extend along the first direction D1. In this embodiment, the ends of at least part of the curved electrodes 351 are electrically connected to the connection electrodes 352 , and the strip electrodes 358 are not parallel to the connection electrodes 352 . When the second electrode layer 350' has a strip electrode 358, the structural strength of the curved electrode 351 in the second electrode layer 350' can be increased, that is, the curved electrode 351 is less likely to break, so the second electrode layer 350 can be improved. ' disconnection problem. In addition, if the liquid crystal switch panel 300 is a large-sized panel, the strip electrodes 358 can also reduce the overall resistance value of the second electrode layer 350'. In some embodiments, the width W2 of the strip electrodes 358 is in the range of 3 microns to 9 microns.

Returning to FIG. 2 , the liquid crystal switch panel 300 further includes a first alignment layer 360 , a liquid crystal layer 370 , a second alignment layer 380 and a second substrate 390 . The first alignment layer 360 is on the second electrode layer 350 . The liquid crystal layer 370 is on the first alignment layer 360 . The second alignment layer 380 is on the liquid crystal layer 370 . The second substrate 390 is on the second alignment layer 380 . In some embodiments, the second substrate 390 is any suitable substrate, such as but not limited to a glass substrate.

The first alignment layer 360 and the second alignment layer 380 are located below and above the liquid crystal layer 370 respectively, and can be used to provide a pre-tilt angle and an alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 370 . In some embodiments, the alignment directions of the first alignment layer 360 and the second alignment layer 380 differ by, for example but not limited to, 0 or 180 degrees. The direction of the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 370 can be changed by switching the state of the liquid crystal switch panel 300 (that is, whether the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 are electrified). Therefore, the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules can determine whether the decorative pattern on the optical film stack 200 ( FIG. 1 ) can be displayed on the display 10 . For example, when the first potential is supplied to the first electrode layer 330 and the second potential is supplied to the second electrode layer 350, the liquid crystal layer 370 will change the polarization state of the external ambient light to reduce the reflection of the optical film stack 200, and allow The display light of the display panel 100 passes through, so the user can watch the display content of the display panel. On the other hand, when the first potential is not supplied to the first electrode layer 330 and the second potential is not supplied to the second electrode layer 350, the decorative pattern of the optical film stack 200 will appear through the reflection of external ambient light, At the same time, the display panel 100 stops providing display light, so the user can observe the decorative pattern of the optical film stack 200 .

FIG. 6 shows a side cross-sectional view of a liquid crystal switch panel 300' in some other embodiments. The details of the liquid crystal switch panel 300' are similar to those of the liquid crystal switch panel 300, the difference is that the liquid crystal switch panel 300' further includes metal wires 500. FIG. 7 shows a top view of the first electrode layer 330, the second electrode layer 350' and the metal wire 500. Referring to FIG. The metal wire 500 is under the turning portion 357 and is electrically connected to the second electrode layer 350'. Specifically, in some embodiments, the metal wire 500 can be disposed under the strip electrode 358 connected to the turning portion 357 of the second electrode layer 350', and the metal wire 500 overlaps with the strip electrode 358. The width W3 of the metal line 500 may be smaller than the width W2 of the strip electrode 358 . In some embodiments, the width W3 of the metal line 500 ranges from 2 microns to 6 microns. With such a configuration, the resistance of the second electrode layer 350' can be further reduced. In other embodiments, the metal wire 500 and the strip electrode 358 do not need to exist in the second electrode layer 350' at the same time. For example, the metal line 500 can also be formed under the turning portion 357 of the second electrode layer 350 ( FIG. 3A ), and electrically connected to the second electrode layer 350 , and the metal line 500 extends along the first direction D1 .

FIG. 8 shows a top view of the first electrode layer 330'' and the second electrode layer 350'' in other embodiments. The first electrode layer 330'' and the second electrode layer 350'' are similar to the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 in FIG. 3A respectively, the difference lies in the first electrode layer 330'' and the second electrode layer 350' 'is divided into multiple blocks, and the first electrode layer 330 and the second electrode layer 350 are each a complete electrode layer. Specifically, the first electrode layer 330'' includes a first segment 330A and a second segment 330B which are separated. The second electrode layer 350'' includes a separate first block 350A and a second block 350B, and the end of the curved electrode 351A in the first block 350A is connected to the connecting electrode 352A, and the end of the curved electrode 351A in the second block 350B The end of the curved electrode 351B is connected to the connection electrode 352B. The first block 330A and the first block 350A can be connected to the first circuit, and the second block 330B and the second block 350B can be connected to the second circuit, so the first block 330A and the first block 350A, The second block 330B and the second block 350B can be controlled separately. In other words, the state of the display 10 corresponding to the first block 330A and the first block 350A may be different from the state of the display 10 corresponding to the second block 330B and the second block 350B. For example, the first block 330A and the first block 350A make the liquid crystal switch panel in the display state, and the second block 330B and the second block 350B make the liquid crystal switch panel in the non-display state. Therefore, the portion of the display 10 corresponding to the first block 350A can display the image presented by the display panel 100 , and the portion of the display 10 corresponding to the second block 350B can display the decorative pattern of the optical film stack 200 . In some embodiments, the first electrode layer 330 ″ and the second electrode layer 350 ″ are not limited to being divided into two sections, for example, the first electrode layer 330 ″ and the second electrode layer 350 ″ Each can be divided into four blocks.
