Description

Display device

The present invention relates to an electronic device, and particularly to a display device.

Common flat displays include liquid crystal displays, organic light-emitting diode displays, plasma displays, etc. The flat panel display can be applied to various electronic products (for example: TVs, desktop screens, notebook computers, mobile phones, etc.). Different types of electronic products require different sizes of flat panel displays. According to the needs of various electronic products, flat-panel displays of different sizes are produced separately, which takes a long time to develop and is not in line with economic benefits. Therefore, a large-sized flat panel display can be resized to form a flat panel display of various desired sizes. In the process of forming a flat display with a desired size, the cut flat display is exposed to the pads first, and then the conductive pads are used to electrically connect the pads to the flexible printed circuit board. However, the contact area between the conductive element and the side of the pad is small, resulting in excessive contact resistance between the two, which is detrimental to the manufacturing yield and performance of the flat panel display.

The invention provides a display device with good performance.

The display device of the present invention includes a first substrate and a plurality of pixels provided on the first substrate. Each pixel includes a first signal line, a thin film transistor electrically connected to the first signal line, a pixel electrode electrically connected to the thin film transistor, and a first auxiliary electrode. The pixel electrode has a plurality of first branch portions and a plurality of second branch portions. The first branch defines a first alignment area. The second branch defines a second alignment zone. The alignment direction of the first alignment zone is different from the alignment direction of the second alignment zone. There is a first junction area between the first alignment area and the second alignment area. The first auxiliary electrode is disposed on the first junction area and partially overlaps the first signal line. The plurality of first auxiliary electrodes of any two adjacent plurality of pixels are separated from each other.

Based on the above, after the display device of one embodiment of the present invention is resized, the first auxiliary electrode is electrically connected to the first signal line, and the first auxiliary electrode can be regarded as an auxiliary pad corresponding to the first signal line. The first conductive pattern formed on the side of the first substrate not only contacts the side of the first signal line, but also contacts the side of the auxiliary pad. As a result, the contact area between the first conductive pattern and the corresponding conductive element of the pixel array substrate becomes larger, and the contact resistance becomes smaller, thereby improving the reliability of the resized display device.

The extending direction of the second trunk portion 126 can selectively coincide with the extending direction of the first signal line SL1. The second trunk portion 126 is connected between the plurality of first branch portions 121 and the plurality of third branch portions 123. For example, the third branch portion 123 and the first branch portion 121 may be located on the left and right sides of the second trunk portion 126, respectively, and the third branch portion 123 and the first branch portion 121 may be located below the first trunk portion 125 side. The pixel electrode 120 further has a plurality of fourth branch portions 124. The plurality of fourth branch portions 124 defines a fourth alignment region R4, an alignment direction d1 of the first alignment region R1, an alignment direction d2 of the second alignment region R2, and a third The alignment direction d3 of the alignment region R3 and the alignment direction d4 of the fourth alignment region R4 are different from each other. The second trunk portion 126 is also connected between the plurality of second branch portions 122 and the plurality of fourth branch portions 124. The first trunk portion 125 is also connected between the plurality of third branch portions 123 and the plurality of fourth branch portions 124. For example, the fourth branch portion 124 and the second branch portion 122 may be located on the left and right sides of the second trunk portion 126, respectively, and the fourth branch portion 124 and the second branch portion 122 may be located on the first An upper side of the trunk 125.

In this embodiment, the pixel electrode 120 may be a transmissive pixel electrode, a reflective pixel electrode, or a combination thereof. For example, the material of the transmissive pixel electrode includes metal oxides, such as indium tin oxide, indium zinc oxide, aluminum tin oxide, aluminum zinc oxide, indium germanium zinc oxide, or other suitable oxidation Or a stacked layer of at least two of the above; the material of the reflective pixel electrode includes a metal material with high reflectivity, such as aluminum, silver, or other suitable materials.

It is worth noting that each pixel P includes a first auxiliary electrode 130, which is disposed on the first boundary region B1 and partially overlaps the first signal line SL1. In this embodiment, the first auxiliary electrode 130 overlaps the first trunk portion 125. The first signal line SL1 extends in the first direction y, and the first auxiliary electrode 130 extends in the second direction x, where the first direction y and the second direction x are staggered. The first signal line SL1 has a line width W1 in the second direction x, the first auxiliary electrode 130 has a length L1 in the second direction x, and the length L1 of the first auxiliary electrode 130 is greater than the line width W1 of the first signal line SL1 . An insulating layer GI (shown in FIG. 1) is disposed between the first auxiliary electrode 130 and the first signal line SL1. The plurality of first auxiliary electrodes 130 of any two adjacent pixel P are separated from each other. In detail, there is a gap g1 between the plurality of first auxiliary electrodes 130 of any two adjacent pixels P, and the gap g1 overlaps the pixel electrode 120 of one of the pixels P. Before the display device 1 is resized, the first auxiliary electrode 130 floats. In this embodiment, the first auxiliary electrode 130 and the second signal line SL2 can selectively belong to the same first conductive layer, but the invention is not limited thereto.

Fig. 3 shows a resized display device 1'according to the first embodiment of the present invention Sectional schematic. 4 is a schematic top view of the pixel array substrate 100' of the resized display device 1'according to the first embodiment of the present invention. The cross-section of the pixel array substrate 100' in FIG. 3 corresponds to the cross-sectional line A-A' in FIG. Fig. 5 is a schematic side view of the resized display device 1'according to the first embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the display device 1 can be manufactured as the display device 1'by using a resizing method. For example, the re-sizing method may include the following steps, which will be illustrated below with reference to FIGS. 2 to 5.

Please refer to FIGS. 3 to 4. In this embodiment, first, the first auxiliary electrode 130 of the bit pixel P and the first signal line SL1 are electrically connected. For example, the intersection of the first signal line SL1 and the first auxiliary electrode 130 may be irradiated with laser light to fuse the first signal line SL1 and the first auxiliary electrode 130 to each other. Then, the pixel array substrate 100 (shown in FIG. 2) may be cut along a predetermined scribe line 10 (shown in FIG. 2) to form a pixel array substrate 100'. But not limited to this, in other embodiments, the pixel array substrate 100 (shown in FIG. 2) may be cut along a predetermined scribe line 10 (shown in FIG. 2), and then the first signal is welded by laser irradiation The line SL1 and the first auxiliary electrode 130. Then, a sealant 400 (shown in FIG. 3) is filled between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 200. Part of the sealant 400 penetrates between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 200, is located on the first signal line SL1 and the first auxiliary electrode 130, and is arranged along the cutting lane 10 (shown in FIG. 2) and is being cut Multiple pixels P near the track 10 overlap.

Then, at least polish the pixel array substrate 100 and the sealant 400 to form the side 112 (marked in FIG. 5) of the first substrate 110 corresponding to the scribe line 10 and the side 412 (marked in FIG. 5) of the sealant 400 ). In the above grinding process, The pixel array substrate 100 and the sealant 400 can be simultaneously polished, so the side SL1a (marked in FIG. 5) and the first auxiliary of the first signal line SL1 of the pixel P arranged along the cutting lane 10 and near the cutting lane 10 The side 130 a of the electrode 130 (marked in FIG. 5) may be substantially aligned with the side 112 of the first substrate 110 and the side 412 of the sealant 400.

Next, the first conductive pattern 510 is disposed on the side 112 of the first substrate 110, wherein the first conductive pattern 510 is in contact with the side SL1a of the first signal line SL1 and the side 130a of the first auxiliary electrode 130. In this embodiment, the first conductive pattern 510 can be fabricated using a laser patterned metal layer. However, the present invention is not limited to this. In other embodiments, the first conductive pattern 510 may also be manufactured by inkjet printing, flexo printing, gravure printing, or other suitable methods.

Next, the first flexible circuit board 610 and the first conductive pattern 510 are joined so that the electrode 612 (marked in FIG. 5) of the first flexible circuit board 610 passes through the first conductive pattern 510 and the side surface SL1a of the first signal line SL1 and the first The side 130a of an auxiliary electrode 130 is electrically connected; thereby, the resized display device 1'can be completed. For example, in this embodiment, the above-mentioned bonding process may use a hot-pressing process, but the invention is not limited thereto.

It is worth mentioning that after the first auxiliary electrode 130 is electrically connected to the first signal line SL1, the first auxiliary electrode 130 can be regarded as an auxiliary pad corresponding to the first signal line SL1. The first conductive pattern 510 formed on the side 112 of the first substrate 110 not only contacts the side SL1a of the first signal line SL1, but also contacts the side of the auxiliary pad (for example, the side 130a of the first auxiliary electrode 130). By this, the corresponding conductive elements of the first conductive pattern 510 and the pixel array substrate 100' (i.e., the first signal line The contact area between SL1 and the first auxiliary electrode 130) becomes larger, the contact resistance becomes smaller, and the reliability of the display device 1'can be improved.

In addition, the alignment direction of the display medium 300 (e.g., liquid crystal) on the first boundary area B1 is discontinuous. Therefore, when displaying images on the display devices 1, 1', the first boundary area B1 is a discrete line. Since the first auxiliary electrode 130 is disposed in the first boundary region B1 (i.e., the area corresponding to the dark line), the arrangement of the first auxiliary electrode 130 does not excessively affect the transmittance of the display devices 1, 1'.

B-B’。 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a non-resized display device 1A according to a second embodiment of the invention. 7 is a schematic top view of a pixel array substrate 100A of a display device 1A without resize according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The cross section of the pixel array substrate 100A of FIG. 6 corresponds to the section line B-B' of FIG. 7.

The display device 1A and the pixel array substrate 100A of the second embodiment are similar to the display device 1 and the pixel array substrate 100 of the first embodiment, and the main differences between the two embodiments are: the display device 1A and the image of the second embodiment The element array substrate 100A includes the second auxiliary electrode 140 and does not include the first auxiliary electrode 130. To explain the difference between the two embodiments, for the similarities or similarities between the two embodiments, please refer to the foregoing description, and will not be repeated here.

Referring to FIGS. 6 and 7, each pixel P of the pixel array substrate 100A includes the second auxiliary electrode 140 and does not include the first auxiliary electrode 130. The second auxiliary electrode 140 is disposed on the second boundary region B2 and partially overlaps the second signal line SL2. In this embodiment, the second auxiliary electrode 140 overlaps the second trunk portion 126. In the extending direction of the second auxiliary electrode 140 (eg, the first direction y), the second signal line SL2 has a line With a width W2, the second auxiliary electrode 140 has a length L2, and the length L2 of the second auxiliary electrode 140 is greater than the line width W2 of the second signal line SL2. An insulating layer GI (shown in FIG. 6) is provided between part of the second auxiliary electrode 140 (for example: the connecting portion 144) and the second signal line SL2. The plurality of second auxiliary electrodes 140 of any two adjacent pixel P are separated from each other. In detail, there is a gap g2 between the plurality of second auxiliary electrodes 140 of any two adjacent pixel P. The gap g2 may overlap, for example, the common line CL of one of the pixels P, but the invention is not limited thereto. Before the display device 1A is resized, the second auxiliary electrode 140 floats.

In this embodiment, the second auxiliary electrode 140 includes a main portion 142 interlaced with the first trunk portion 125 of the pixel electrode 120. The main portion 142 of the second auxiliary electrode 140 may selectively belong to the same first conductive layer as the second signal line SL2. The second auxiliary electrode 140 further includes a connecting portion 144, and both ends of the connecting portion 144 respectively overlap a corresponding main portion 142 and a corresponding second signal line SL2. The connection portion 144 of the second auxiliary electrode 140 can selectively belong to the same second conductive layer as the first signal line SL1.

8 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a resized display device 1A' according to a second embodiment of the present invention. 9 is a schematic top view of a pixel array substrate 100A' of a resized display device 1A' according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The cross-section of the pixel array substrate 100A' of FIG. 8 corresponds to the cross-sectional line B-B' of FIG. Fig. 10 is a schematic side view of a resized display device 1A' according to a second embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, the display device 1A can be manufactured as the display device 1A' using the resize method. For example, the re-sizing method may include the following steps, which are illustrated below with reference to FIGS. 8 to 10.

Please refer to FIGS. 8 to 9. In this embodiment, first, the second auxiliary electrode 140 and the second signal line SL2 are electrically connected. For example, in this embodiment, the two ends of the connecting portion 144 of the second auxiliary electrode 140 may be irradiated with laser, so that the two ends of the connecting portion 144 are welded to the main portion 142 and the second signal line SL2, respectively. In other words, the main portion 142 of the second auxiliary electrode 140 can be electrically connected to the second signal line SL2 by the connecting portion 144. Next, the pixel array substrate 100A may be cut along a predetermined scribe line 20 (shown in FIG. 7), thereby forming a pixel array substrate 100A'. However, it is not limited to this. In other embodiments, the pixel array substrate 100A may be cut first, and then the second signal line SL2 and the second auxiliary electrode 140 may be welded. Then, a sealant 400 (shown in FIG. 8) is filled between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 200. Part of the sealant 400 penetrates between the first substrate 110 and the second substrate 200, is located on the second signal line SL2 and the second auxiliary electrode 140, and is arranged along the cutting lane 20 and near the cutting lane 10 Prime P overlaps.

Then, the pixel array substrate 100A and the sealant 400 are polished to form the side 114 (marked in FIG. 10) of the first substrate 110 corresponding to the scribe line 10 and the side 414 (marked in FIG. 10) of the sealant 400 . In the above-mentioned polishing process, the pixel array substrate 100A and the sealant 400 can be simultaneously polished. Therefore, the side SL2a (marked in the figure) of the second signal line SL2 of the pixel P arranged along the scribe line 20 and near the scribe line 20 10) and the side 140a (marked in FIG. 10) of the second auxiliary electrode 140 can be substantially aligned with the side 114 of the first substrate 110 and the side 414 of the sealant 400.

Next, the second conductive pattern 520 is disposed on the side of the first substrate 110 114, wherein the second conductive pattern 520 is in contact with the side surface SL2a of the second signal line SL2 and the side surface 140a of the second auxiliary electrode 140. In this embodiment, the second conductive pattern 520 is made by using a laser patterned metal layer, for example. However, the present invention is not limited to this. In other embodiments, the second conductive pattern 520 may also be manufactured by inkjet printing, flexographic printing, gravure printing, or other suitable methods.

Next, the second flexible circuit board 620 and the first conductive pattern 520 are joined so that the electrode 622 of the second flexible circuit board 620 passes through the first conductive pattern 520 and the side surface SL2a of the second signal line SL2 and the side surface of the second auxiliary electrode 140 140a is electrically connected; thereby, the resized display device 1A' can be completed. For example, in this embodiment, the above-mentioned bonding process may use a hot-pressing process, but the invention is not limited thereto.

It is worth mentioning that after the second auxiliary electrode 140 is electrically connected to the second signal line SL2, the second auxiliary electrode 140 can be regarded as an auxiliary pad corresponding to the second signal line SL2. The second conductive pattern 520 formed on the side 114 of the first substrate 110 not only contacts the side SL2a of the second signal line SL2, but also contacts the side of the auxiliary pad (for example, the side 140a of the second auxiliary electrode 140). As a result, the contact area between the second conductive pattern 520 and the corresponding conductive elements of the pixel array substrate 100A' (ie, the second signal line SL2 and the second auxiliary electrode 140) becomes larger, and the contact resistance becomes smaller, thereby improving the display device 1A 'Reliability.

In addition, the alignment direction of the display medium 300 (e.g., liquid crystal) on the second boundary area B2 is discontinuous.
