The connector is fitted with a plurality of contacts" to engage the appropriate contacts on the 5 larger cards. Pad 34a. A connector 3 receives a smaller standard memory card ("small card") inserted into the connector in the direction of arrow 42. The connector is then inserted into the slot of memory card connector 32 in the direction of arrow 44. Therefore, any of the connector 30 or the larger card 34 that conforms to the smaller card 40 can be selectively inserted into the memory card connector. 10 Referring again, Figures 1 to 3, the connector 30 is extremely simple. It consists in that it comprises only three components, and a plurality of terminals. In particular, the connector comprises a front dielectric housing component 46; a rear dielectric housing component 48; a metal housing 5〇, a plurality of conductive terminals 52 The dielectric housing component can be molded from an inert material. The metal casing can be stamped and formed from a thick sheet metal material, while the terminal 52 15 is stamped and formed from a thin sheet metal material. The front housing component of the joint 30 The 46 series includes a front butt end wheel and a rear joint end 46b. A plurality of slots 46c are formed adjacent the front mating end on the underside of the front housing member. A pair of flexographic latch arms 54 are summarized The opposite side of the front housing member 46b protrudes rearwardly. The flash lock arm 20 has an inner latching hook 54a and an outer latching hook 54b. The rear housing member 48 of the connector 30 includes a front terminal mounting section 48a and extends rearwardly from the front section on opposite sides of a bottom wall 48c. A pair of side wall segments 4. The front terminal mounting portion 48a defines a front engagement end 4 of the rear housing member. The top portion of the front portion 48a is recessed as 48e. A pair of latching groove brothers are mounted at the terminal security 1249878 The opposite end of the segment 48a is formed in the front corner of the rear housing member to receive the flexible latch arm 54 of the front housing member. The latching aperture (not visible in the figure) is formed on the inside of the latching groove The rear corner is received to receive the inner latch hook 54a of the latch arm 54. The terminal 52 projects forwardly from the rear housing member into the front housing member to engage the contact 38 of the connector 5. The metal sleeve 50 of the connector 30 The U-shaped cross section generally includes a top wall 50a and a pair of side walls 50b along opposite side edges of the top wall. A pair of latch holes 50c are formed in the front end points of the side walls. A mounting lip 5〇d from the top The wall 50 projects forwardly and is slightly offset downward or inward therefrom. 1 闩 by latching the flexible front housing element The arm 54 is inserted into the latching groove 56 of the rear housing member until the inner latching groove 54a is riveted within the latching aperture of the latching groove such that the front housing member 46 is assembled into the rear housing member 48. When assembled as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the two housing elements are combined to form a shape substantially the same as the shape of the larger card 34 as shown in Figure 4. After the two housing elements are assembled 15, the housing is The side wall 50b of the sleeve slides over the side wall section 48b of the rear housing element until the latching aperture 50c in the side wall of the housing is riveted to the latching hook 54b latching out of the flexible latching arm 54 of the front housing element The metal casing 50 is assembled until it is joined. The mounting lip 50d of the casing moves over the top of the rear casing member and below the front casing member into the recessed portion 48e. When the metal casing assembly 20 is assembled, the casing and rear casing components are combined to define a cavity 58 having an opening 60 for receiving the smaller card 40. Referring to Figures 5 through 9 and Figure 1, terminal 52 is stamped and formed from a sheet of conductive metal material. After the terminal is stamped and formed, it is held joined to a carrier strip 62 of the metal casing by a plurality of webs 64. Each of the webs is narrowed according to (4) the line-step narrowing of Figure 6 10 1249878, which will cause the individual terminals 52 to separate from the carrier web. Each of the final known 52 is stamped and formed with a contact portion, and the contact portion 52& is projecting into the cavity 58 to engage the appropriate contact pad on the bottom side of the smaller card 4G. Each terminal includes a respective contact on the memory card connection 1132. - A mounting section 52e is formed between the contact portion and the weir portion. The mounting section has a thin engagement tooth on its opposite edge. An offset portion is formed between the mounting portion and the flange portion 52b. The end points of the last 'four' (10) are chamfered as shown at 68 of the sixth and ninth drawings to guide the pad portion relative to the contact member 38 of the memory card connector and to prevent damage to the connector of the connector. Configuration The terminal mounting (4) & of the first and second housing components 48 includes a plurality of through-channels % as shown at 70a. The channel is fixed to the terminal mounting section 52e' and the chamfered mouth of the channel facilitates the terminal insertion into the channel. The channel is the terminal line _ and the formed figures 12 to 16 show the sequence of operations when assembling the joint 3 。. First, while the terminal is still attached to the carrier strip 62, the terminal 52 is jointly inserted into the through passage 7' of the rear housing member 48 in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 12. The terminal is inserted until the offset portion 52f (Fig. 5) of the terminal abuts against the front end 2' end 48d of the rear housing member. At this point, referring back to Figures 7 and 8, it can be seen that the contact portion 52a is narrower than the mounting portion 52 (and the offset portion 52f. Referring again to Figure u, it can be seen that each of the through passages 70 is T-shaped. With a narrower upper portion 7 and a lower portion 7Ge° during the terminal insertion, the narrower contact portion appears to be inserted into the narrower portion 70b of the passageway, while the wider mounting portion 52c is inserted into the wider portion 7〇c 1249878 Since the offset portion 52f is also wider, as will be seen in more detail below, the offset portion will abut the front engagement end point 48d of the rear housing on the opposite side of the narrower portion 70b of the channel. After the rear housing member 48 is fully inserted, as shown in Fig. 14, the carrier strip 62 is broken away from the terminal. The carrier strip is bent back and forth until the carrier strip is broken along the dividing line 66 (Fig. 6) away from the terminal. This effect is achieved. The front housing element 46 is then assembled to the rear housing element 48 as described above and as shown in Fig. 15. By inserting the flexible latch arm of the front housing element into the latch in the rear housing element This effect is achieved by the groove 56. 10 The metal casing 5〇 is then shown in Figure 16 and as indicated above at arrow 72 Assembly to the rear housing member inwardly. When fully assembled, the flash lock hole 5〇c in the side wall 50b of the housing is riveted to the latching hook 54c other than the flexible latch arm 54 of the front housing member 46. In the latching engagement, the downwardly offset mounting lip 5〇d of the metal casing moves into the recessed area 48e of the rear housing element and is then located below the front housing 15 element. Figure 17 shows the front housing The groove 46c on the front bottom side of the member 46 is guided to a plurality of passages 76 in the m housing member to receive the pad portion 52b of the terminal 52. This exposes the pad portion to engage the contact member 38 of the memory card connector 32 (Fig. 4) At the same time, the pad portion 52b is supported by the plastic material of the front housing member. 20 Figure 18 shows the offset portion 52f of the terminal 52 abutting against the jaw engagement end 48d of the rear housing member 48. When the housing member 46 is assembled In the case of the rear housing element, the rear engagement end 461) of the front housing τ a member abuts against the rear housing element and clamps or clamps the offset of the terminal between the housing elements. This secures the terminal in the connector. Figure 18 also shows how the 12 1249878 mounting lip 50d, which is offset downwardly of the metal casing 5, moves into a groove in the interior of the rear casing member 46. This holds the top wall 50a of the casing downwardly at the joint. Finally, Fig. 19 shows that the outer two terminals of the connector may include a grounding terminal. In detail, the outer two terminals comprise resilient contact ribs projecting upwardly and engaging the offset mounting lip 5 of the metal casing 5〇. 〇d. This allows the metal case to be shared by the ground terminal, and the ground terminal can engage the appropriate ground contact of the memory card connector (38, Figure 4). If the memory card connector is mounted on a printed circuit board Thus, the metal casing is grounded to the appropriate ground traces on the circuit board via the outer two ground terminals of the connector. 10 15 20 It will be appreciated that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Therefore, the present examples are to be considered as non-limiting and not limiting, and the invention is not limited to the details provided herein.
