Abstract
The preparation of negative electrode carbon materials primarily consists of the following procedures: a cleaned natural waste material, such as the husk or hull from wheat, rice, corn, cane, coconut, fruit, or any seed, was immersed in a zinc chloride solution. After this treatment, the dried waste was pyrolyzed under an inert atmosphere. The resulting carbon material was washed with acid and then rinsed with water until reaching pH=7. After drying, the final carbon product was obtained. In a specific example using the above procedures, the weight ratio of rice hull and zinc chloride was 1:3 and the pyrolysis temperature was 500 DEG C. The resulting carbon material with a high surface area can be used as negative electrode material in lithiumion batteries, which displayed first discharge and charge capacities of 1853 and 1913 mAh/g, respectively. The reversible capacity after the 5th cycle was 896 mAh/g.
