Abstract

A dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) used for optical-fiber communication includes two star couplers and an arrayed wave guide grating element, wherein the arrayed wave guide grating element is composed of plural wave guides. Doping Ge, B, P, TiO2 or F etc. on every wave guide to make the refraction index of the middle specific zone of the wave guide differ from the refraction index of the head and tail zones so as to eliminate the superfluous side envelope on the optical spectrum and increase the isolation degree of the wave guide frequency spectrum by 3 to 5 dB to contract the size of wave guide. By the modulation of the refraction index of the wave guide it can shift the center wavelength of the wave guide such that arrayed wave guide grating elements with different characteristics can be flexibly made without changing the design of the planar integrated waveguide.
