Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily obtain a function equivalent to an arrayed light source by inserting an arrayed waveguide type device between the light source and an arraylike transmission line as an external modulation element. CONSTITUTION:A titled device leads continuous or pulselike modulated oscillation light from a light emitting source such as a single semiconductor laser into plural optical fibers. Waveguide light led from a semiconductor laser 1 into a main waveguide 3 formed on a substrate 2 such as photoelectric crystal is led into a main waveguide 3' and also branched into branch waveguides 40-43 successively and these branched light rays are moreover branched into the 2nd branch waveguides 400-430 respectively, modulated by photoelectric modulators 50-53 provided in the branch waveguides and transmitted to a fiber array 6. Since these modulated signal light is independent and noninterferential, respectively, the semiconductor laser 1 has an function of just like an arrayed one.
