Abstract
The invention relates to a method for the continuous casting of thin slabs at casting rates of more than 3 m/min in a continuous casting plant in which the melt is directed into a mould via an immersion spout, which is adapted to be closed by means of a shut-off device, a billet-guiding means equipped with rollers being connected next in line after the mould, characterized by the following steps: (a) after leaving the mould, the casting shell of each wide side of the slab is shaped during its plastic phase to have a steady-state wave shape which corresponds to the roller spacing of the guiding rollers supporting said casting shell, (b) subsequently, an unsteady-state wave-shaped surface form is impresses on the casting case on the wide sides of the slab during its resilient phase, to correspond to the coordination of the oppositely arranged guiding rollers, (c) during the discharge of the billet, the transition from the plastic to the resilient phase of the casting shell is measuringly detected, and (d) in the region of the resilient phase of the casting case, the slab is supported in a manner such that it is guided through the billet-guiding means with a minimal action of force on the casting shell.
