Abstract
A method of isolating and recovering a safflower yellow dyestuff free of impurities from a safflower petal extract, which comprises the step of bringing the safflower petal extract into contact with a macroporous aromatic compound-based adsorbent and/or a macroporous compound-based aromatic modified adsorbent to allow the safflower yellow dyestuff to be adsorbed on said adsorbent or said adsorbents, in which the adsorbed pigment is desorbed from the adsorbent using a mixed solvent consisting of an organic solvent and water at a volume ratio of (100:0) to (21:79), the treated liquid is brought into contact with the adsorbent B to effect the adsorption of safromine A pigment, the pigment is desorbed from the adsorbent with a solvent consisting of an organic solvent and water at a volume ratio of (30:70) to (100:0) and finally the sugars or glycosides remaining in the treated liquid are purified.
