Abstract
A finishing composition for clothes comprising (a) one or more water soluble polymer having a weight average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 6,000,000 and selected from the group consisting of the following polymer (I) to (vii): (I) processed starches and derivatives thereof; (ii) cellulose derivatives; (iii) saponified polyvinyl acetate and derivatives thereof; (iv) polymers which are obtained by polymerizing one or more monomers having at least one of a vinyl group and an aromatic ring and which contain a sulfonic acid group or salts thereof; (v) homopolymers of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (D); (vi) copolymers obtained by polymerizing said monomer (D) with one or more vinyl monomers (E) copolymerizable therewith and salts thereof, provided that the molar fractions of the monomer (D) in the monomer composition of the copolymers and salts thereof are at least 30%; and (vii) homopolymers and copolymers of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and salts thereof, and (b) one or more softener compounds selected from a water-insoluble, unhardened silicone and quaternary ammonium salts represented by formula (I): wherein one or two of R1, R2, R3 and R4 represent each an alkyl or alkenyl group having 8 to 25 carbon atoms while the residual ones represent each an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and X- represents an anion group, wherein the fiber properties satisfying the following requirements (A) and (B) can be imparted to a plain weave cotton fabric (60 deniers) after immersing therein at a treating concentration of 0.1% o.w.f. at 20 DEG C for 5 minutes: (A) the rigidity value under bending strain (B value) of the cotton fabric is larger than that of the untreated fabric and is within the range of from 0.05 to 1.0 gf.cm<2>/cm; and (B) the hysteresis width value under shear strain (2HG5 value) of the cotton fabric is smaller than that of the untreated fabric and is within the range of from 0 to 10.0 g/cm.
