Abstract

A method of transporting or storing (or preparing to undergo transporting or storing) produce comprising the steps of: (I) loading and sealing the produce in a container having sealable, transportable and flexible walls (hereinafter referred to as "container"), substantially isolating the gas related to the produce from its encompassing environment; the container comprising: electrically-excitable or actuable and powered means for circulating the gas related to the produce in the produce, and forming a certain heat exchange relationship through a sealing periphery of the sealed produce and at least a portion of its related gas; and (ii) maintaining the temperature of the sealed produce/gas environment, or after reducing maintaining the temperature of the sealed produce/gas environment by using a controlled freezing environment outside the container; in which the container and a sealed periphery and said at least a portion of the produce/gas environment forming a certain heat exchange relationship, maintain at a freezing temperature, and the gas in the container is continuously circulating therein.
