A gas generator for an air-bag system, having a combustion chamber (12)(52) containing a gas generation material (18)(58), an ignitor for ignition of the gas generation material and a dust separator (13)(53) for separation of the particles contained in the generated gas, including: said combustion chamber (12)(52) being divided at least into at least 2 independent combustion chambers (16)(17) or (56)(57), said ignitor having a self ignition element (19)(20) or (59)(60) to the combustion chambers, being each of the ignitor (19)(20) or (59)(60) going on in sequence to extend the gas generation time.
