Abstract
A process for preparing light-weigh aggregate useful as a construction material, which comprises mixing power plant fly ashes or incinerator ashes with 8-20 wt.% of a air-curable solidifying agent comprising 60% of solidifying additive (magnesium oxide), 10 wt.% of modifier (active magnesium oxide, gypsum, ferric chloride, or magnesium sulfate), 25 wt.% of modulating agent (magnesium chloride or aqueous acrylic resin), and 5 wt.% of stabilizer (swelling earth or sodium pyrophosphate), adding 10-30 wt.% of water relative to the amount of the air-curable solidifying agent, mixing evenly the mixture, granulating the mixture, delivering the granulated product to a aging furnace set at 90-100C and aging the same for 1-2 days, to give a granular light-weight aggregates that can substitute gravels.
