Abstract
A continuous production method for polycarbonates through interfacial methodwhich comprises: (a) introducing a bishydroxyphenol, an alkaline solution and a phosgeneorganic solution into a first stage motionless mixer, forming a dispersionsolution which contains the partially phosgenized derivative of the phenolsin which the reactants introduced into the first stage motionless mixer areat 0-15 "J and the pH value at 12-13 and the molar ratio of phosgene tobishydroxyphenol is between 1.0-1.1 and the first stage motionless mixer hasa cooling bushing to maintain the temperature of the inside reactant mixtureat 5-20 "J; (b) converging the reactant mixture from the first stage mixer of step (a)and a recycled oligomer reactant mixture and introducing them into a secondstage motionless mixer so as to enable further conversion of the residualunreacted phenols in the aqueous solution in which the reactant mixture fromthe second stage motionless mixer is at 15-25 "J and a pH value of 9-11; (c) introducing the reactant mixture from the second stage motionless mixerof step (b) into a continuous-flow stirred tank reactor (CSTR) with aretention time of 10 to 60 minutes, meanwhile adding an additional alkalineaqueous solution into the reactant mixture in the CSTR in which the reactantmixture in the CSTR is at 20-40 "J and the pH value of the aqueous solutionphase is at 11-12.5; (d) separating the reactant mixture from the CSTR into two streams in whichthe first stream is recycled to the step (b) and the organic phase in thesecond stream contains polycarbonate prepolymer with a weight averagemolecular weight of up to 21,000 and the aqueous solution phase of thesecond stream substantially contains no unreacted bishydroxyphenol; and (e) mixing the second stream from step (d) with an amine catalyst dissolvedin an organic solvent or water and introducing the mixture into amulti-layer plug flow CSTR to undergo interfacial polycondensation.
