Abstract

Aspects of the disclosure relate to an article carrier (90; 290; 490) for packaging one or more articles and to a blank (10; 110; 210; 310; 410) for forming the carrier. Description

Item carrier and its embryo

The present invention relates to an article carrier and a blank for forming the article carrier, especially but not limited to a top clamping carrier having one or more openings for accommodating and holding an article in it.

In the packaging world, it is known to provide cartons that can carry multiple items. Cartons are well known in the art and are useful in enabling consumers to transport, store and access a group of items to be consumed. For cost and environmental considerations, such cartons or carriers must be formed from the least amount of material possible, and waste must be minimized. Other considerations are the strength of the carton and its suitability for loading and transporting heavy items. The contents of the carton should be safe and sound after packing.

Conventional top grip type article carriers are known in which an aperture is formed in a plate of the carrier from which tabs are pressed and arranged around the aperture. When an item is received in the aperture, the tabs move out of the plane of the plate and then engage the item generally around a flange or lip of the item

It is desirable to provide a restraint band to hold items in a tightly formed group. Another object of the present invention is to provide a carrying handle for transporting the package.

The present invention seeks to provide improvements in the field of packaging of cartons, usually composed of cardboard-like material, and in the equipment used to assemble said cartons.

A first aspect of the present invention is to provide a top engaging carrier for packing one or more items. The carrier includes an engaging wall having an item retaining structure for engaging each of the items. The carrier includes a restraint strap disposed around the items and connected to the engaging wall with at least one shoulder panel. The portion of the restraint provided with a carrying handle may be two-layered in construction and comprise an inner panel and an outer panel hinged to the inner panel.

A second aspect of the present invention is to provide an item carrier for packing one or more items. The item carrier includes a tubular structure. The tubular structure comprises: a first side wall panel having a fixed portion at each end of itself; a second side wall panel having a fixed portion at each end of itself; A first end wall panel of the first and second side wall panels; and a second end wall panel joined to each of the first and second side wall panels by a corresponding second gusset piece.

Typically, one side of the sheet may have different properties than the other side. The first end structure includes at least one first end plate 18A, 18B.
