Abstract

An operating device is for a human-powered vehicle. The operating device includes a base, a positioning ratchet, a positioning member, a release pawl, a second release member and a support. The positioning member includes a contact part and a positioning pawl that moves between a holding position and a releasing position. The positioning pawl engages the positioning ratchet to selectively establish predetermined positions of the positioning ratchet. The positioning pawl is disengaged from the positioning ratchet to permit the positioning ratchet to move in a releasing direction where the positioning pawl is in the releasing position. The release pawl contacts the contact part to disengage the positioning pawl from the positioning ratchet. The second release member includes a disengaging portion that disengages the release pawl from the positioning member.
