Abstract

In this paper, an educational two-phase motor model is proposed. It allows us to illustrate the working principle of AC motor by demonstrating the rotating magnetic field with simple physics laws like linear and circular motion. The model is composed of a two-phase motor, a controller, and an oscilloscope which displays the power waveform. Inside the two-phase motor, there are four sets of electromagnets serving as the stators. Each set of electromagnet is surrounded by two-color LED lights to show the electromagnet excitation and polarity. Among them, a set of Cross-shape, high-brightness LED lights is allocated to exhibit the magnetic field vector component variation along the d, q axis of the stator. The surrounding circular light, which is consisted of 4 sets of high-brightness LED lights, demonstrates the rotating magnetic field.
