200924999 IX. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a small, non-reciprocating sheet dispenser having sheet stacks that are detachably adhered to a fan-fold configuration. Each sheet has an adhesive coverage of about 45% to 55%. In a preferred embodiment, each of the sheets has an adhesive coverage of about 5 〇〇 / 0. In one aspect, the invention relates to a sheet dispenser having a longitudinal axis and comprising or consisting essentially of: (a) an upper member having an ear of 133292.doc -6-200924999 vertical axis a vertical and centrally located slot having a width dimension when measured parallel to the longitudinal axis, (b) an at least temporarily attached to the upper member to form a lower portion of the outer casing; and (4) a stack of sheets The stack has a & scale in its long axis direction, and each sheet in the stack is detachably adhered to each other in a fan-fold configuration and is disposed in the housing, each sheet including (0 a label end portion, a viscous end portion, and a - opposite first and second surfaces, and (π) a repositionable adhesive coating disposed at the viscous end portion of the second surface of each sheet The adhesive covers about 45/0 to 55% of the first surface, wherein one of the bottommost sheets in the stack is not attached to the lower member of the outer casing, and wherein the slit width is the length of the stack About 1. /. to 1 〇〇 / 〇. In another aspect, The invention relates to a sheet dispenser having a longitudinal central axis and comprising or consisting essentially of: (a) an upper member having slits located perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and centered and attached to the opposite First and second upper end walls on the first and second end walls, wherein the slots have a width dimension disposed parallel to the β-longitudinal axis, (b) at least temporarily attached to the upper member Forming a lower casing member; and (c) a stack of sheets having a length dimension, each of the sheet bundles in the stack being detachably adhered to each other in a fan-fold configuration and disposed in the outer casing 'Inside, each sheet comprises (1) a label end portion, a viscous end portion, and an opposite first and second surface, and (可) is visibly disposed on the viscous end portion of the second surface of each sheet Positioning an adhesive coating that covers about 45% to 55% of the first surface. The dispenser has a length, as measured from the first lateral end wall to the second lateral end wall, which is at most Stack length 133292.doc 200924999 of 111/. And one of the bottommost sheets in the stack is not attached to the lower member of the housing. In yet another aspect, the invention relates to having a __t mandrel and comprising or consisting essentially of a writing instrument consisting of: (4) having opposite first and second portions, a portion disposed between the ends, a gripping surface of the material portion and a first cavity to, (b) a first end from the barrel portion a marker element partially extending and disposed within the first lumen; and (C) having an opposite first and second $ dispensed portion 'the first end of the dispensing portion is associated with the second portion of the barrel portion The dispensing portion includes: (1) a cover sheet applicator including a cover having (1) a top portion and a back portion joined by two substantially symmetrical side walls, each side wall having a curved profile, the back portion being slid over the first portion of the mating portion On both ends, (2) is disposed in a slot along the middle of the top and perpendicular to the central axis of the writing instrument, and a fixing mechanism for attaching the covering to the dispensing portion, and (Π) Integrated into the lower member of the dispensing portion, such that the cover a cover is formed between the cover and the lower jaw member when attached to the dispensing portion; and (iii) a second inner chamber adjacent the dispenser lower member and associated with a portion of the first chamber . One of the advantages of the present invention is that since the sheet dispenser is a non-reciprocating dispenser, it is described in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,77,32, 4,907,825, 6,719,472, and 6,837,395. The stack is generally smaller (e.g., 'having a smaller footprint) than the dispenser that shuttles from one end wall to the opposite end wall when a sheet is removed. Therefore, the dispenser of the present invention can be integrated into a writing instrument that originally has a limited space in a small footprint. Also as a stand-alone dispenser, the intensiveness of the dispenser of the present invention 133292.doc 200924999 allows efficient use of space, which is becoming more and more important for many people, including the possibility of not having a dedicated work area but from one The work area is moved to a part-time staff member in another work area. Such part-time workers have practical limits on the number and size of materials that can be manually transported back and forth across multiple work areas. As used herein, the term "non-reciprocating dispenser" generally means that when the first sheet in the stack is initially removed through the slot, the next sheet is then moved into the slot by movement. The dispensing process is initiated without first moving the stack from the end wall of the dispenser to the opposite end wall. Thus, the end wall of the dispenser defining the length of the dispenser is only slightly larger than the length of the stack of sheets. The present invention is intended to be illustrative, and not restrictive, and the invention may be Drawing for illustrative purposes only. Figure 1A shows an exemplary prior art sheet dispenser. The sheet dispenser 10 includes a housing having a housing portion attached to the lower housing portion 13. The upper housing portion has an upper surface 14 and The outer casing portion on the side wall 15 of the accommodating sheet stack may be temporarily or permanently attached to the lower casing portion 13 along the periphery 16. The sheet label portion 17 is self-contained The dispenser extends through the slot 18 in the upper housing portion. The stack of sheets 3 is placed within the housing of the sheet dispenser. For ease of discussion, the stack includes 7 individual sheets, which are It is called a sheet 2〇a to 2〇g. When the user moves from the dispenser 133292.doc 200924999, in addition to the first individual sheet 2, the stack moves from the first position 31 to the second position in the dispenser. 32. This reciprocating motion is also described in Figures 1B to 1D, which are further described in U.S. Patent No. 4,77,32 (Miles et al.). The sheet stack is shown in Figure 1B. The dispenser partially removes the first individual sheet 20a and moves to the second position 32. At this stage of the sheet removal process, the portion 201a of the first individual sheet 20a remains attached immediately to the first individual sheet 2〇 a below the second individual sheet 2〇b. As the first individual sheet 2〇a is further removed from the dispenser, a traction force is applied to the second individual sheet 2〇b, forcing a portion of the second individual sheet 20b together with the independence Part 2 of sheet 2〇a 2 La passes through the slot 18. This configuration is shown in Figure 1 C. In Figure ic, the portion 2〇2b of the second individual sheet 20b is placed near the mouth of the slot 18. A separate sheet 20a is pulled from the dispenser. The adhesive layer 24a on the lower surface of the first individual sheet 2A is still attached to the individual sheet 20b and results in a portion of the second individual sheet 2〇b. 2b exits the slot 18. As the first individual sheets 2〇& are further removed from the dispenser, the end portions 2〇21) of the second individual sheets 2〇b move closer to exit the slot 18. Figure 1D illustrates the final stage within this reciprocating motion in which the stack of sheets is in a second position 32, the first individual sheet 2A has been completely removed from the dispenser and disengaged from the second individual sheet 20b. And a portion of the second individual sheet 20b extends through the slot 18. At this stage, the stack of sheets is in place to completely remove the separate sheets 20b from the dispenser 133292.doc -10- 200924999 'Match back to the first position 3!. This prior art dispenser has a length that is longer than the length of the stack of sheets, generally referred to as "L". 2 ❹ , Figure 2 shows a side view of an exemplary sheet stack 130 that can be detached from each other and, for purposes of discussion, unfolded in a similar foldable manner. Again, for ease of discussion, the stack already contains 7 sheets '12〇& to 12〇§. Each sheet has a label end portion, a viscous end portion. For example, the first sheet 12 〇 & has a label end portion H and the viscous end portion 12Gaye. Similarly, the mth thin portion has a label end portion 120bx and a viscous end portion 12 〇by. Each sheet is also 匕3 opposite the first and second surfaces. The first surface is non-adhesive and is preferably writable. An adhesive coating 124 is disposed on the second surface and the bit is at the viscous end portion. The label end portion is adhesive-free on both the first and second surfaces thereof. The plurality of sheets are stacked such that the adhesive on any two adjacent sheets is located at the opposite end of the stack. In one embodiment, the sheets are orthogonal to the resulting sheet stack. The stack has a length that is the same as its longest side. At most, the adhesive coating 124 covers approximately 45% to 55% of the surface area of the second surface of the sheet. Preferably, the adhesive covers approximately the surface area. In an adhesive coverage area of greater than about 55%, the stack of sheets will no longer be able to expand in a similar-foldable sector due to the adhesion of the adhesive-sheet on the next subsequent sheet. Due to the fan-folded state, the overlap occurs on the middle of the heap #. Thus, a stack of sheets in which each of the sheets has about 6 % adhesive coverage will result in a stack of substantially - large sheets. While the present invention is operable to have individual sheets having 133292.doc 200924999 60% adhesive coverage, the force required to dispense such a sheet from the stack is too large 'it is an undesirable feature for the consumer . Further, in which the sheet is generally used for marking or indexing documents, in the application, each sheet needs to have a sufficient amount of adhesive to adhere to the document. Thus, while the present invention can be operated using a sheet having an adhesive coverage of less than 450/inch, such sheets may not be useful in sign type applications. The label end portion of the sheet is selectively colored with a sharp color to emphasize the area in which the document has been marked. Any color can be used as long as it attracts the attention of the consumer. The tag end portion may also contain a label or illustration, if desired. In one embodiment, the viscous end portion is substantially transparent so as not to obscure any document text that may be located just below the sheet. The crotch sheet may be composed of various materials including paper, synthetic paper, and a polymer film. In a preferred embodiment, the sheet is a polymeric film such as, but not limited to, 'cellulose acetate and polypropylene. 3A and 3B are enlarged cross-sectional side views showing an exemplary configuration of the present invention equipped with a sheet stack 13A. The dispenser has a longitudinal axis along its length, generally indicated by reference line 125. The dispenser has a second axis that is configured perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, the horizontal axis being as indicated by reference line 128. The dispenser includes an upper member ι 2 having a centrally located slot 118 that is disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis about about a center point along the length of the dispenser. The slot divides the upper member into two substantially equal portions. The first P blade 3 has a first top wall 112a. The second part contains the second top wall. "4 side walls 114 extend from the top wall. The side walls comprise two opposite end walls, 133292.doc 200924999 first end wall 115a and second end wall n5b. The distance between the two end walls is such that The length of the adapter. The dispenser includes a lower member 113. The upper member is at least temporarily attached to the lower member via a sidewall to form an outer casing. Each of the sheets in the stack has an adhesive coverage of about 5%, as above The 'adhesive coverage may be about 45% to 55%. As shown most fully in Figure 3a, when the stack of sheets is in a non-configured state, each of the first and second top walls, respectively 112 & 1121) contacting about 40% or more of the surface area of the topmost sheet 12 〇 & the first sheet 120a in the stack has its label end portion 12 〇 &\ extending through the slit. The sexual end portion 120ay is still inside the outer casing such that the repositionable adhesive 124 of the first sheet is in contact with the label end portion of the second sheet 12b. The point at which the label end portion is in contact with the adhesive end portion is This article is called "stick line•, "Interface " and generally as indicated by reference line 127. The interface bit is below the slot. Figure 3A shows the interface located near the middle of the slot, as described further below, which can be located anywhere along the width of the slot. In FIG. 3B, as the first sheet 12A is removed from the dispenser, a pulling force is applied to the second sheet 12b to force a portion of the second sheet (in this case, the label end) Part 12〇by) enters the slot. Thus, upon removal of the first sheet from the stack, the next adjacent sheet also begins the dispensing process by folding within the slot. The stack is reciprocally moved to the side end walls before the next sheet begins to be dispensed, as shown in the previous dispenser of Figures ID to ID. The sheet stack 13 can be moved from side to side to the other side wall, due to the amount of adhesive 133292.doc -13 - 200924999 located on each sheet and due to the length of the stack and the dispenser The tight tolerance between the lengths of the stack does not move reciprocally as described in Figures 1A through 1D during dispensing. Figure 3C shows a perspective view of the dispenser of Figures 3A and 3B. The dispenser has a slot width parallel to the longitudinal axis 125, designated Sw ^ In one embodiment, 'the slot width is between 1% and 10% of the length of the stack of sheets. In another embodiment, the slot width is between 丨% and 5% of the length of the stack of sheets. The slot has a length that is large enough to allow the individual sheets to extend through the slot. In the ® embodiment, the length of the slot is slightly less than the distance between the two sidewalls parallel to the longitudinal axis 125. The dispenser has a length that is substantially equal to the distance between the two side end walls 115a and 115b. The dispenser has a length of at most 110% of the length of the stack of sheets to minimize the footprint of the dispenser. The exemplary sheet dispenser shown in Figures 3A, 3B and 3C has a rectangular shape and is adapted to dispense a rectangular sheet. It should be noted that the sheet dispensers and the sheets of the present invention may have any other shape. Suitable alternative shapes include, but are not limited to, squares, circles, sugar circles, rhomboids, trapezoidal ladders, bars, diamonds, or any other shape. Any of these shapes. 胄 Shape' The stack of sheets will have a length that is equal to the longest linear scale of the (4). For example, in the example of a square stack, the longest linear dimension of the square stack is the diagonal of the square. For a circular stack, the longest linear dimension is the diameter. For an expanded circle, the longest linear dimension is its long axis. Further, the dispenser is described as having separate upper and lower members. 133292.doc 14 200924999 It should be noted that the upper and lower members can be integrally formed with an opening for inputting a new stack of sheets. The dispenser can be made of a variety of materials: including but not limited to plastic, paper, glass, metal or combinations thereof. Ideally the dispenser is made of a moldable plastic material. In the present invention, the upper member includes (4) a glazing material, and the lower member includes a paper substrate. In some examples, the upper member is desirably made of a transparent material such that the interior of the sheet dispenser is visible to a user.

Descriptive writing tools include, but are not limited to, fluorescent pens, pens, markers, and pencils. Figure 4 depicts a perspective view of an unassembled writing instrument 200 without a writing element. Figure 5 is a perspective view of the assembled writing instrument of Figure 4 and the sheet dispenser 240 shown in an exploded view. The writing instrument 2 has a barrel portion 210 and a dispensing portion 220. In this special implementation, the book is elongated with a generally cylindrical barrel and a dispensing portion. The writing instrument has a central axis along its length. The barrel portion has a first end 2ι, a second end 213' and a grip portion 212 (shown schematically as a stripe) disposed between the first and second ends. As shown in Figure 5, the writing element 2〇2 extends from the first end from the barrel portion. When not in use, the cap 2〇1 engages the first end of the barrel portion to cover and protect the writing instrument. The writing instrument is capable of applying ink or fluid to a document. The dispensing portion 220 has a first end, a second end 223' and a sheet dispenser 24" disposed between the first and second ends. The sheet dispenser includes a cover 230 that engages the lower member 26A to form a stack of sheets 133292.doc • 15· 200924999. The sheet stack has an adhesive coverage of about 45 to 55%. The sheet stack of Figure 2 can be used in the writing instrument of the present invention. In this embodiment, the cover is removable, allowing the user to load a new stack of sheets when the previous stack has been used. The lower member 26A is an integral part of the dispensing portion. Side wall 264 extends from one end of the lower member adjacent first end 221 of the mating portion. Optionally, a set of first collimating ribs 267 and a set of end strut 265 extend from the lower member 26 and from the side wall 264. Although the graphic shows two in each group, a collimating rib and or one end post can be used if desired. The dispensing portion can also include a caliper 26 for engaging the latch 23 1 of the cover. The caliper and latch system illustrate a method of engaging the cover to the dispensing portion. Other methods can be used. For example, the cover can be hinged to the dispensing portion. Optionally, the second end 223 of the dispensing portion 220 includes a nodule 229 that engages the aperture 239 of the cover once the dispenser is assembled to the writing instrument. When the writing instrument is assembled, the second end of the barrel portion is associated with the first end 221 of the dispensing portion. In the exploded perspective view of Fig. 5, the exterior of the cover is shown, for example, exposed to the side of the user. In the perspective view of the cover of Fig. 6, the inside of the cover, i.e., the side in contact with the stack of sheets, is shown. The cover includes a top portion that includes a slot 238 that is generally configured to be perpendicular to a central axis of the writing instrument. The slot is located approximately midway along the length of the cover. The slot has a length that allows the sheet within the stack to extend through the slot. The length of the slot is traversed or perpendicular to the center axis of the writing instrument. The slot has a width dimension that is generally parallel to a central axis of the writing instrument. The cover 133292.doc • 16- 200924999 The top of the cover further includes two top walls 235 that are generally symmetrical across the slot. When the stack of sheets is assembled in the sheet dispenser and when the user needs to remove a sheet therefrom, the first exposed sheet 251 is pulled up, causing the topmost sheet in the stack to be in direct contact with the top wall . Optionally, the top of the remote cover further includes two apertures 236 disposed adjacent the top wall 235. Two generally symmetrical sidewalls 234 extend from the top of the cover. The cover further includes a back 234 that extends from both the top and the side walls of the cover. In one embodiment, the top, side walls and back of the cover are formed as an integral unit. The side wall has a curved profile along the length of the writing instrument. In other words, if a cross-sectional view of the writing instrument that fits the cover between the slot 238 and the latch 231 is taken, it is different from the cross-sectional view between the slot 23 8 and the back 234. . The back of the cover may optionally include a diameter 239. Likewise, the cover can optionally include a plurality of second collimating means 237 having a first contact surface 237a, one on each of the side walls. However, only one set can be used. Alternatively, the cover may be made of a transparent material. When the cover is fitted over the dispensing portion of the writing instrument, an outer casing for the stack of sheets is formed. The combination of the set of first collimating means 267 and the set of first collimating means 237, and the end strut 265 facilitates maintaining the sheet stack 250 in a central position relative to the slot 23 8 . The distance between the first contact surface 237a of the second collimating device 237 and the end post 265 parallel to the central axis is the length of the dispenser. Most of the dispenser length is about 110 〇/〇 of the length of the stack of sheets. Therefore, when removing the individual sheets, consider the amount of adhesive coverage on each sheet and the tight tolerance between the length of the dispenser and the length of the sheet stack of the 133292.doc 200924999 sheet if the sheet removal process During the movement of the stack, the movement is also small. Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view of the embodiment of Figure 4 with the barrel portion 21 mounted on the dispensing portion 220 but without the writing element and cap. The writing instrument has a central axis substantially as indicated by CL. The first chamber 214 of the barrel portion 210 has a central axis that is generally co-linear with the central axis of the writing instrument. The dispensing portion causes the sheet applicator to be generally above the central axis. The dispensing portion has a second chamber 280 that is positioned below the central axis of the writing instrument. The second inner chamber 280 is adjacent the lower member of the dispenser and is associated with a portion of the first chamber. In one embodiment, the writing elements are disposed in the first and second chambers of the barrel portion and the dispensing portion, respectively. In this case, when the writing element enters the dispensing portion, the writing element cannot be maintained along The central axis of the writing instrument because the sheet dispenser 240 interferes with its path. Thus, the writing element can be bent to take a path below the central axis into the second chamber. Within the barrel portion, the writing element will be located generally collinear with the spool of the writing instrument. Within the dispensing portion, the writing element is located only within the first chamber. The figure also shows that the side wall of the cover 230 has a ridged veranda as shown by line 234 when the writing aid is viewed from the right or from the left side view. The adhesive used on the sheet of the present invention may be various materials. The adhesive may be pressure sensitive adhesive. The adhesive may also be a pressure sensitive repositionable adhesive. An exemplary microsphere based adhesive comprises a polyacrylic acid derivative. The repositionable adhesive can be solvent based, water based or can be a solvent free hot melt adhesive. The repositionable adhesives included are disclosed in the following U.S. Patent No. I33292.doc 200924999: 3,691,140 (Silver); 3,857,731 (Merrill et al.); 4,166,152 (Baker et al.); 4,495,318 ( Howard); 5,045,569 (Delgado); 5,073,457 (Blackwell) and 5,571,617 (Cooprider et al), 5,663,241 (Takamatsu et al); 5,714,327 (Cooprider et al); US RE 37,563 (Cooprider et al); and 5,756,625 (Crandall et al) Person); 5,824,748 (Kesti et al.); and 5,877,252 • (Tsujimoto et al.). Example ® Dispensing Test Method The force required to dispense a polymer sheet of 0.375 inch (9.5 mm) width by 1.75 (44.4 mm) length from a stack of sheets is accomplished using an Instron machine. . The sheets are stacked in a fan-fold configuration. The stack is held in a dispenser integrated with the writing instrument, such as the Post-it® logo fluorescent pen available from 3M Company. U.S. Patent No. 6,179,472 shows a schematic of a dispenser used in this test. The dispenser has a length of about 2.3 inches (59 mm) and a width of about 625 inches (16 slit width. • The fluorescent pen is attached to the InStron fixture using double-sided tape. In addition, two pieces are used (about 5 Long inches) Se〇tch<g) Magic Tape, Product No. 810, to fix the fluorescent pen to the device in a step-by-step manner. The two pieces of tape straddle the dispenser area of the fluorescent pen. Put the label end portion of the "Hail Sheet" into the slit of the fixture to treat about 1 benzene per minute.

This Mk-like type of test is similar to the 90 peel test used to evaluate peeling 133292.doc -19- 200924999 adhesive. The peak force required to dispense the sheet is recorded as gm force. Example 1 The dispenser discussed in the above "Straining Test Method" was modified with two spacers, each approximately 7.6 mm long and 9_5 mm wide. Each spacer is used to block one end of the dispenser. Therefore, the dispenser has an effective length of about 43.8 111111 or about 25 〇/〇 less than the original length. Sheet stack - each sheet having about 5 % repositionable adhesive coverage on its second surface and its viscous end portion - is placed in the retrofit dispenser with the label end portion extending therethrough Slot. The peak force required to remove the individual sheets from the dispenser via the slots is measured. Three different stacks of sheets were used. Each stack had approximately 5 sheets each. In the first two stacks, 8 samples (a total of 16 sheets) were tested and in the third stack, 9 samples were tested, and the three stacks totaled one sample. The peak load required to dispense each sample is recorded in D (four)° along with the average peak load value.
