Abstract
Discloses is a useful production process which can produce an alkene having a hydroxyl group with high efficiency by reducing the formation of any by-product during the production process and therefore can be utilized for the production of the alkene in an industrial scale. Also disclosed is an alkene having a hydroxyl group, which is suitable as a material for use in a polymer for an electronic information material or a functional chemical product. The process comprises reacting an α, β-unsaturated ester with an aldehyde compound in the presence of a tertiary amine compound and water to produce the alkene having a hydroxyl group, wherein the molar ratio of water to the aldehyde compound used in the reaction is 0.6 to 1.9.
