The discharge tube driving circuit includes a step-up transformer (1) having a tank circuit to generate a resonance current resonating with a parasitic capacitance of a discharge tube (4), and the control method of the discharge tube driving circuit for driving at least the driving tube comprises a step of detecting a phase of the resonance current and generates a detection signal corresponding to the phase of this resonance current, and a step of adjusting the detection signal and a calculation value corresponding to the frequency of the drive signal for driving a primary winding (11) of the step-up transformer (1). Further, it comprises a step of synthesizing waveform of the drive signal by adding and subtracting a counter value to the calculation value.
