Billet for a heat roll comprising Mn 0.97 to 1.50% by mass, Mg 0.50 to 2.50% by mass, Cu 0.20 to 1.40% by mass, Fe 0.20 to 1.00% by mass, Ti 0.01 to 0.50% by mass. Be 0.0001 to 0.01% by mass, and the balance being Al and inevitable impurities. This aluminum ally contains Be, and therefore, oxidation of Mg can be avoided, and the surface of billet is not blackened, and the billet can be advantageously processed and exhibits enhanced strength, high-temperature creep characteristics and heat resistance.
