Abstract

A control device and method of a portable air-cooled fuel cell comprises a fuel cell set, a hydrogen pressure regulation valve, a hydrogen front/rear end electromagnetic valve, an air pump, a cooling fan, a control circuit board, a DC/DC transformer, a start battery, and a cement resistor. The control circuit board utilizes a pulse width modulation (PWM) control signal to control the hydrogen rear end electromagnetic valve to change parameters, and thus to solve the unstable power output of the fuel cell system after start-up; therefore the transformation efficiency of the DC/DC transformer and the stability of the entire system can be enhanced. However, the control circuit board can detect the residual power status of the system after power-off and then conduct the residual power to the cooling fan or the cement resistor to consume the power. The purpose of consuming the residual power is to prevent an electrolysis reaction of water caused by the residual power in the fuel cell which causes damage to the proton exchange membrane of the fuel cell set. The control device is configured to control the start-up and power-off processes of the fuel cell set in accordance with a control flow chart of the fuel cell system and the operation parameters.
