Abstract

The present invention relates to a novel hydrocarbon compound, which is excellent in both heat resistance and light resistance with good solubility in organic solvents, and has higher singlet and triplet excitation levels and a larger electrolytic oxidation-reduction potential difference. The hydrocarbon compound of the present invention is characterized by the partial structure represented by the following formula (I) in the molecule. In the formula (I), G is a substituent represented by the following formula (II), R and R each independently represent any alkyl group, and the benzene ring bonded to R1, R2 and G has no other substituents except for R1, R2 and G. In the formula (II), R3 ~ R5 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or any alkyl group, and the terphenylyl group as represented by the formula (II) has no other substituents except for R3 ~ R5.
