Abstract
A foamed product is obtained in which the penetration of oil and coloring matter can be prevented. A foamable polystyrene-based resin particle which is superior in foamability, and a method of producing the resin particle, as well as a pre-expanded foamed particle derived from the resin particle, a foamed product made of the resin particle and packaging for food in which a food product is enclosed are also provided. The foamable polystyrene-based resin particle has its surface covered with a polystyrene-based resin outer layer which is formed by polymerizing a styrene monomer containing a cross-linkable monomer and is impregnated therein with an easily volatile foaming agent. In the foamable polystyrene-based resin particle, when the resin particle is saturated and swelled in tetrahydrofuran, the thickness of a superficial layer thereof is within the range of 3 μm and 100 μm and the gel fraction of a residue thereof insoluble in tetrahydrofuran is from 10 to 50 percent by mass in terms of the total weight of the resin particle.
