Abstract

This invention provides a low-cost pack battery that will not be abnormally overheated even when the trouble that causes an overcurrent is not removed. The pack battery has switch means in series connection with the battery, current detection means 2 for detecting the current flowing in the battery, and controlling means 5 for controlling the on/off of the switch means according to the results of detection of the current detection means 2. The controlling means 5 turns off the switch means when a current of more than a predetermined value flows in the battery 1 as an overcurrent detected condition and maintains the switch means in an off-condition and also maintains an overcurrent relieved condition for a predetermined period of time after the switch means is turned off. The controlling means 5 reinstates automatically an on-condition of the switch means for a predetermined period of time after the switch means is turned off. When above said over current detected condition and the overcurrent relieved condition occur continuously, the above said predetermined period of time is determined in response to the number of times of occurrence of the overcurrent detected condition and the overcurrent relieved condition. Furthermore, the above said predetermined period of time is decided in a positive relation with the above said number of times of occurrence.
