Abstract

Disclosed is a polymerizable compound (for example, a polymerizable compound represented by the formula [9] below) which is useful as a material for optical compensation films such as polarizing plates and retardation plates or optically anisotropic films such as multidomain films that are used in displays such as liquid crystal displays. Such a polymerizable compound has an exomethylene structure unit which serves as a polymerizable unit. Also disclosed is a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing such a polymerizable compound and a polymerizable liquid crystal compound. Further disclosed are a polymer and a film respectively obtained from such a polymerizable liquid crystal composition. [9] (In the formula, n represents an integer of 8-10.)
