Abstract
The purpose of the present invention provides a transparent film which almost has no optical anisotropy, almost no difference of the physical characteristics between the machine direction and the direction being perpendicular to the transparent film, with small change of the optical anisotropy or the aspect dimension cause of the changes of temperature and humidity. A excellent liquid crystal display device is also provided thereby which neither optical leakage nor the tone change etc. would not be carried out, even if the environmental change of the temperature and humidity occurred. The solution of the present application is a transparent film which the elastic modulus of elongation in the machine direction is 2.4×10<SP>9</SP> to 4.9×10<SP>9</SP> N/m<SP>2</SP> the elastic modulus of elongation in the direction being perpendicular to the machine direction is 2.3×10<SP>9</SP> to 4.7×10<SP>9</SP> N/m<SP>2</SP>; and the ratio of the elastic modulus of elongation in the machine direction / the elastic modulus of elongation in the direction being perpendicular to the machine direction is 0.80 to 1.36; the retardation value Re in plane of the film is less than 20; and the absolute value of the retardation value Rth in the thickness direction of the film is less than 25. Further, the present invention also relates to a optical compensation film by using the transparent film mentioned above, a polarizing plate, and a liquid crystal display device.
