Abstract

A reactive power compensator device for compensating the reactive power of induction generator is disclosed. This reactive power compensator includes a capacitor and a power converter serially connected thereto. The capacitor is adapted to provide a basic reactive power and reduces the voltage rating and power capacity of the power converter. The power converter is used to adjust the compensating reactive power within a predetermined range and protect the capacitor from the harmonic current generated by the induction generator. The current, generated by the induction generator, injected into the power feeder is a current with sinusoidal waveform and in phase with the voltage of the power feeder after compensating by the reactive power compensator device. Hence, the induction generator with the reactive power compensator device can supply a high quality power with nearly unity power factor to the power system.
