Abstract

Reflective type or half-transmissive type liquid crystal display(LCD) comprises a liquid crystal cell, an optical anisotropic member and an emission side polarizer. The optical anisotropic member has a ratio(Re(450)/Re(550)) or not larger than 1.007, in which Re(450) and Re(550) are a retardation in plane as measured at 450 nm and 550 nm respectively. And OCB mode LCD comprises a liquid crystal cell, an emission side polarizer and an incidence side polarizer between which the cell is put, an optical compensator. The optical compensator has a retardation in plane, an average refractive index in normal less than that in plane, and a refractive index in normal varying depending upon the depth. Each of the emission side polarizers has an antireflective film having a multilayer structure on the side far from the cell thereof. The antireflective film comprises a low refractive index layer having a refractive index of no more than 1.37 comprising a curing film containing porous particles.
