Abstract

Disclosed is a method for purifying ethyl chloride wherein a crude ethyl chloride containing a stabilizer and/or moisture is brought into contact with a zeolite having an average pore size of 3-11 Å and/or a carbonaceous material adsorbent having an average pore size of 3.4-11 Å in a liquid phase for reducing the stabilizer and/or moisture contained in the crude ethyl chloride. Also disclosed is a method for producing fluoroethane by using ethyl chloride obtained by such a urification method. The purification method enables to remove stabilizers and moisture contained in ethyl chloride, and can be performed commercially since the processes are easy to operate.
