Abstract
To provide a housing made from a magnesium alloy, which has high quality and has a complicated shape, through using an magnesium alloy plate of which the formability is guaranteed by specifying a composition of the magnesium alloy and controlling the amount of impurities in the magnesium alloy to a proper value or lower. The magnesium alloy plate includes 1.0 to 10.0 mass% aluminum, 0.5 to 3.0 mass% zinc and 0.1 to 0.8 mass% manganese as one part of added alloying elements, and oxygen controlled to 300 mass ppm or lower. The housing is a superplastically formed body made of the magnesium alloy plate, and consequently has a structure having a cavity inhibited from forming during superplastic forming. EFFICACY: By means of defining the amount of impurities in the magnesium alloy plate and its composition, a superplastically formed magnesium-alloy made housing having a complicated shape can be provided and prepared. The above housing made of a magnesium alloy can be aggressively applied to a housing for household electrical appliances.
