Abstract

Provided are an optical compensation sheet consisting of only a cellulose acetate film and optically compensating a VA-mode liquid crystal cell; a polarizing plate which adds a most suitable optical compensation function to a VA-mode liquid crystal cell; and a VA-mode liquid crystal device optically compensated by a cellulose acetate film. A optical compensation sheet comprises 0.01 to 20% by mass of compound having linear molecular structure having two or more aromatic rings, based on 100% by weight of a cellulose acylate and only consisting of one cellulose acylate film having a Re value defined by mathematical formula (I) of 20 to 70 nm, a Rth value defined by mathematical formula (II) of 70 to 400 nm, a Re/Rth ratio of 0.2 to 0.4 and a thickness of 40 to 110μm wherein nx represents a refractive index in slow axis direction, ny represents a refractive index in fast axis direction, nz represents a refractive index in thickness direction, and d represent the film thickness.
