Abstract

This invention relates to recycling optical recording medium materials by electrolysis and dissociation, and particularly to one using electrolysis and electroplating processes in an electrolytic tank. Optical recording medium where its polymer film layer has been removed in advance is placed at anode. The metal layer will then be electrolyzed so as to separate from the substrate upon applying a voltage so as to dissociate and form metal ions in the electrolyte. Since the metal ions carry positive charges, they are attracted by negative charges, so as to precipitate on the cathode due to electroplating effect. This process allows quick separation and recycling of a significantly amount of the substrate material and metal film material. Since this invention uses DC voltages to expedite the reaction, rather than using the conventional wet chemical process that uses strong acid, strong base and solvent, as well as heat to facilitate reaction, this method eliminates material deterioration caused by heat and high activity chemicals, an obtain substrate and metal material of high degrees of purity to allow high-value recycling.
