Abstract

It is an object to employ a structure which can be applied to a cylinder bed sewing machine and to prevent the contact of the end of a needle thread with the race surface of a bobbin case holder. There are provided gripping means 20 having a holding portion 21 for holding an end of a needle thread and a gripping portion 31 for being relatively moved to a gripping position and a releasing position with respect to the holding portion to grip and release the end of the needle thread together with the holding portion, and moved to a first moving position on a vertical moving path for a needle at first, to a second moving position placed apart therefrom toward an erected drum portion side of a sewing machine after the start of a sewing operation, and to a third moving position placed further apart therefrom after the formation of several stitches, moving means 40 for moving the gripping means 20 from the first moving position to the third moving position, and related operation means 60 for arranging the holding portion 21 and the gripping portion 31 with a vertical moving path N for the needle gripped therebetween in the first moving position, and causing them to mutually approach in the movement to the second moving position and causing them to separate from each other in the third moving position.
