Abstract

This invention provides a mixture with specific composition, from which the cyclic lactic acid oligomer having desired condensation degree can be isolated more effectively. The mixture is prepared by reacting the terminal carboxyl group of the starting material, a chain m oligomer of lactic acid (m is an integer of 3 to 15) with compound O=R(wherein, R represents cyclic or chain organic group) or compound RSSR'(R and R' are same or different, each respectively represents cyclic or chain organic group), then subjecting the n molecules of said oligomers to cyclization reaction. According to this method, a mixture of (m x n) oligomers of cyclic lactic acid (i.e., oligomer having m x n molecules of lactic acid units) is obtained. The condensation degree of the obtained cyclic lactic acid is controlled by the condensation degree of the starting chain m oligomer of lactic acid, and is n-fold of m oligomer.
