Abstract

A stop mechanism is disclosed for selectively restricting insertion of a card into a card slot of a card connector. The stop mechanism is positioned in the card slot along a path of insertion of the card into the card slot. A card having a thickness less than a predetermined thickness engages a stop portion of the stop mechanism when inserted into the card slot, preventing further insertion of the card past the stop mechanism. A card having a thickness greater than the predetermined thickness contacts an engagement portion of the stop mechanism when inserted into the card slot, producing a movement of the stop mechanism out of the path of card insertion.

Description

[Previous Technology] Background Art The functionality of electronic devices such as personal computers, mobile phones, and personal digital assistants (pda, s) can be augmented by installing various types of electronic cards. Various components such as CPU (Central Processing Unit) or Memory 1C (Integrated Circuit) can be incorporated into the card. Specific examples of such cards include PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Agreement) cards, SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) cards, MMC (Multimedia Card), SD (Super Density) cards, and SMaRT cards. The thickness of these cards can vary greatly, some cards are relatively thin and some cards are relatively thick. Card connectors have been developed to have two or more card slots to allow electronic equipment objects to be mated to connect several types of cards. These connectors can be designed to accept two cards with different thicknesses. Fig. 16 shows a specific example of such a card connector 1, in which cards having different thicknesses are inserted into slots 2A and 2B provided in parallel. One thicker card is inserted into the card slot 2A and the other thinner card is inserted into the card slot 2B. The card slot 2A includes a pair of guide slots 7 facing each other, and the card slot 2B also includes a pair of guide slots 8 facing each other 5 200409036. By contacting the periphery (not shown) of the card with the front ends of the respective slots 7 and 8, and pushing the card toward the card connector, the card is inserted into the card connector 1. A card connector designed to match a relatively thick card must have a card slot that accepts thicker cards. Card connectors are usually combined with electrical contacts or pins provided at the insertion end of the card slot. These pins are arranged to engage the complementary socket connectors provided in the card when the card is fully inserted into the card slot. Just as a thicker card may have a thickness greater than that of a relatively thinner card, the opening that is structured to accept a thicker card will generally be large enough to allow a thinner card to be inserted into the card slot. "Because of its smaller thickness, 'thinner cards may not touch the inner surface of a card slot that is designed to restrict and guide the movement of the thicker card 2. Therefore, since relatively thinner cards are in larger cards, The movement in the slot is relatively free. The movement of the thinner card in the larger 15-card slot may damage the connecting pin. [Mingner 1] The purpose of the present invention is to limit the thinner card that can be inserted into the card. The frame constitutes a card slot that accepts a relatively thick card, but still allows the thicker card to be completely inserted into the card slot. -0 Brief description of the drawing Figure 1 shows a combination with a stop mechanism. [Practice 10 of the present invention 10] Figure 1β11 shows a specific example of the card connector of the present invention. This specific example shows a pair of card slots, and the frame is configured to be received in one of the card slots. A card that is thinner and that accepts a thicker card in another card slot. Referring to Figures 1 and 9, the card connector 1 has a generally rectangular 15 substrate 10 housing, usually from the opposite side of the substrate 10 The side walls 9 extending in parallel and a top plate 41 extending generally parallel to the substrate 10. The base plate 10 includes a plurality of protruding blocks 47 for mounting the connector 1 to a printed circuit board coupled to an electronic device (not shown) object by using screws or other hardware. 20 Referring to FIGS. 2, 3, and 9, a guide groove 13 and a guide groove 11 are formed in each side wall 9 and extend in a card insertion direction indicated by an arrow IX (picture 1). For convenience, the guide groove 11 is referred to as a "lower guide groove" and the guide groove 13 is referred to as an "upper guide groove." It should be understood that such as "left side", "right side" top " The terms "bottom", "upper", "lower", and the like have been used in the scope of the patents of the previous month of the invention and the delta filed for a simpler and more detailed understanding of the present invention. These terms are not intended to limit the invention in any way. As shown in FIG. 9, the upper guide grooves ^ 3 and 5 formed in the side wall 9 are formed to be opposed to each other to receive an edge of a flat card. Similarly, the lower guide grooves u formed in the side walls 9 are constructed to be opposed to each other. Each of the upper guide grooves 13 has a relatively large opening, the four openings are of a size capable of receiving a relatively thick card (for example, a PCMCIA card), and each of the lower guide grooves η Each has a relatively narrow opening that is sized to accept a relatively thin card (for example, a SMART card). Referring to FIGS. 1, 2 and 9, an intermediate partition 40 is disposed between the base plate 10 and the top plate 41, and generally extends parallel to the base plate 10 and extends the top plate 41 and the side wall 9 (including the upper guide groove i). 3) and the middle 15 partition board 40, which are combined to define an upper card slot 13A. The upper guide groove 13 is located above the middle plate 40 and within the upper card slot hole 138. Because the upper guide # 13 1 has a size to accept a relatively wide opening of a relatively thick card 6, the upper card slot UA is set to accept a thicker card 6. In addition, the middle space + inverse 40, the side wall 0 9 (including the lower guide slot 丨 丨) and the base plate 丨 0 are combined to define a lower card slot hole 11A. The lower guide slot u is located below the middle plate 40 and inside the lower card slot hole 11A. Because the lower guide slot u has a relatively narrow opening 9 200409036 that can accept a relatively thin card 3, the lower card slot 11A is set to accept a thicker card 3. Refer to Figures 3-8 A sealing wall 12 is used to seal the side end portions of the upper card slot hole 13A and the lower card slot hole 11A. The sealing wall 512 may be formed of a synthetic resin. As shown in Figs. 3-8, the sealing wall 12 is provided with a connecting pin 14 'which forms an electrical connection between the thicker card 6 and the card connector 1. Referring to Figures 3, 4 and 9, the upper card slot 13A is quilted to form an end 100 in which a thicker card 6 can be received. However, the user 10 may mistakenly insert the end 102 of the thicker card into the upper card slot UA. To avoid this, the connector 1 includes a mechanism 50 (FIG. 9) that prevents a thicker card 6 from being inserted into the upper card slot 13A. Referring to FIG. 9, the mechanism 50 is contained in the upper card slot 13 A 15 ′, and the right polarization key 52 and the left polarization key 53 are formed on the inner surface of the side wall 9, respectively. Although the right key 52 and the left key 53 have the same shape, the left key 53 is set slightly higher than the position where the right key 52 is provided in the upper card slot 13A. As shown in Figs. 12 and 13, a pair of corresponding mounting grooves 54, 55 are respectively formed around the respective sides of a thicker card 20 adjacent to one end 100 of the thicker card 6 'the thicker card system It is inserted into the card slot 13A. However, at the opposite end 102 of the thicker card 6, no slot is formed. Therefore, when the thicker card 6 is inserted into the upper card slot 13a, the right side key 52 will be received in the mounting slot 54 and the left side key 53 10 200409036 will be received in the mounting slot 55. Because there is no slot at the opposite end 102 of the thicker card 6 for receiving the keys 52 and 54 therein, if the card end 102 is inserted into the upper card slot 13A, the keys 52, 54 will abut against the thicker card The end 100 of 6 prevents the thicker 5 cards 6 from being inserted into the upper card slot. Referring to Figs. 2-8, the connector 1 also includes a selective blocking mechanism for preventing the thinner card 3 from being completely inserted into the upper card slot 13A. The selective stop mechanism includes one or more elements 17 each having a base portion 19, a supporting member 106, and a spring portion 21 which connects the supporting member 10 106 to the base portion 19. The base portion 19 in each component 17 is usually fixed to a part of the connector and connected to the upper card slot 13A. In the specific example shown in Figs. 2-8, the base portion 19 is separately provided and fixed to the spacer plate 40 in the lower boundary defining the upper card slot 13A. The impeachment portion 21 extends from the base portion 15 minutes I9 and is inclined in a direction generally toward the top plate 41 which defines the upper boundary of the upper card slot 13A. A stopper member 106 is attached to the free end of each spring portion 21 and includes an engaging portion 104 to join one of the thicker card 6 or the thinner card 3 to the upper card during the insertion of the card. Groove 20 holes in 13 A. As shown in FIG. 3, the stopper member 06 extends to a path in which a card is inserted into the upper card slot 13A, so the card engages the stopper member 106 during insertion. Because the stopper member 106 is attached to the free end of the spring portion 21 and does not fix the connector 11 200409036 The other portion of the stopper member 〇〇6 can be moved inside the upper card slot 丨 3 A. The joint portion 104 is separated from the top plate 41. The abutment member 106 also includes a abutment portion 25 attached to the engaging portion 104. The stopper portion 25 protruding from the engaging portion 104 is usually vertically abutted against the top plate 41 defining the upper boundary of the upper card slot 13A. In general, the length of the stopper portion 25 protruding from the engaging portion 104 is constant so that the gap between the engaging portion 104 and the top plate 41 is smaller than the thickness of the thin card 3. As described above, the base portion 19, the spring portion 21, and the stopper member 10 106 form a cantilever structure, which together with the top plate 4 丨 defines a closed portion 110 which is structured to receive a card inserted into the upper card slot 13A. Part of it. The base portion 19, the spring portion 21, and the stopper member 106 of the element 17 can be formed integrally, for example, by molding or stamping. 15 Referring to Figures 3_4, the operation of the selective blocking mechanism during the insertion of a thicker card 6 will now be discussed. The blocking mechanism of the present invention selectively limits the extent to which a relatively thin card can be inserted into a card slot formed by a frame to accept a thicker card, while still allowing the thicker card to be inserted into the card slot. Referring to FIG. 20 and FIG. 3, when the thicker card 6 is inserted into the upper card slot nA, the thicker card 6 will engage the spring portion u in the stopper mechanism 17. Referring to FIG. 4, when the thicker card 6 is inserted into the upper card slot M, the thicker card 6 contacts the engaging portion 104 ′ of the stopper member 106 and it presses the spring portion 21 to elastically oppose the spring portion 21. The base portion 12 200409036 19 rotates. Because the stopper member 106 is attached to bend the end of the spring portion 21, the rotation of the spring portion 21 will force the stopper member 106 with a downward force in one direction, thus removing the stopper from the path of inserting the thicker card 6. Part 25, and allows the thicker card 6 to be inserted into the upper card slot 13 A through the stopper member 5 106, and into the normal insertion position of the card indicated by the double dotted line. Referring to Figures 5-8, the operation of the selective blocking mechanism during the insertion of the thinner card 6 will now be discussed. Referring to FIG. 5, when the thinner card 3 is inserted into the upper card slot 13A in the direction indicated by the arrow IX (FIG. 110), the card 3 will engage the spring portion 21 of the lock mechanism 17. Referring to FIG. 6, when the thinner card 3 is inserted into the upper card slot 13A, the thinner card 3 comes into contact with the H-knife 21 and is pushed upward toward the top plate 41 until the card 3 comes into contact with the stopper mechanism 17. Part ι〇4. When the gap between the joint 15 portion 104 and the top plate 41 is smaller than the thickness of the thinner card 3, the 'card 3 will be caught between the joint portion 104 and the top plate 41, causing the supporting member 106 to be inserted away from the card 3. The path moves slightly downwards. This creates a slight gap between the stop portion 25 and the top plate 41. When the thinner card 3 is inserted deeper into the upper card slot 2013A, the 'card 3 will contact the stop portion 25. Because the gap between the stopper 25 and the top plate 41 is not large enough to allow the thinner card 3 to pass through the contact between the stopper 25 and the thinner card 3 to prevent the card 3 from further moving to the upper card slot 13A. within. 13 200409036 It can be seen from the above description and illustration that when a card having a thickness greater than a certain thickness is inserted into the upper card slot 13A ^ 'between the card and the spring portion 21 in the stopper mechanism 17 The 'contact' will cause the spring portion 21 and the stopper member 106 to rotate and move out of the card insertion path, thereby allowing the card to be inserted through the stopper member 106 into the card slot of the cent. Meanwhile, when a card having a thickness less than a predetermined thickness is inserted into the upper card slot 13A, the rotation movement of the stopper member will be insufficient to remove the stopper portion 25 from the card insertion path. In this case, the stopper portion 25 will engage 10 thinner cards to prevent the card from being inserted beyond the stopper mechanism π. Referring to Fig. 8, since the thickness of the opening extending into the upper card slot 13A is larger than that of the thin card 3, the card 3 can be inserted into the upper card slot 13A at an angle. When the thinner card 3 inserted into the upper card slot i3A enters the card slot, the thinner card 3 contacts 15 to the engaging portion 104 and the top plate 41, thereby causing the stopper member 106 to move slightly downward and Causes deviation from the insertion path. As shown in FIG. 6, due to the insertion effect of the card 3 at an angle, the downward movement of the blocking member 106 is slightly larger than the downward movement of the blocking member generated during the insertion of the card 3 in the arrow ιχ direction; Therefore, the gap generated between the stopper portion 25 and the top plate 41 may be slightly larger than that in the previous case. When the thinner card 3 is further inserted into the upper card slot 13a, the card 3 will contact the stopper portion 25. However, even when the thinner card 3 is inserted into the upper card slot 13 at an angle, the gap between the stopper 25 and the top plate 41 is not large enough to allow 14 200409036 by. Therefore, the engagement between the stopper portion and the thinner card 3 prevents the card 3 from further moving into the upper card slot 13A. Referring to FIG. 14, even when the thinner card 3 is pushed past the stopper 5 minutes and 25, before the thinner card 3 comes into contact with the pin 14, the thinner card 3 is blocked from the stopper when the card is inserted. The contact between the mechanisms 17 causes the thinner card 3 to be biased toward the stop member 106 and thus toward the top plate 14, so the thinner card is forced to engage the left and right side polarized keys 52,53. Therefore, if the card is inserted over the catch mechanism 17 and 10, the thinner card 3 will slide along the lower surface of the top plate 41. Referring to Fig. 15, in another specific example, the base portion 9 of the stopper mechanism 17 may be fixed to a surface defining an upper boundary surface of an upper card slot i3A. In this specific example, the holding mechanism u 15 and the intermediate partition 40 are formed-a closed portion nG of a thinner card 3 for receiving a portion during card insertion. At the same time, the contact between the thinner card 3 and the stopper mechanism 17 during card insertion will cause the thinner card 3 to be deflected toward the stopper member 106 and thus toward the intermediate partition. Therefore, if the card is inserted beyond the supporting mechanism 17, the 20 thinner card 3 will slide along an upper surface of the intermediate partition 40. Since the body 14 is separated from the Yin spacer 40 by a thickness greater than that of the thinner card 3, even if the card is inserted beyond the stopper mechanism 17, the thinner card 3 is still in contact with the iron 14. 15 200409036 In another specific example (not shown), a loop can be formed by an elongated member (for example, a metal wire) and is disposed in the upper card slot 13A to be inserted into the upper card close to it. The thinner card 3 in the slot 13A is engaged. 5 It should be understood that the foregoing description is only a detailed description of various different specific examples of the present invention, and many changes can be made based on the content disclosed again without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
