Abstract

To be used as standard test blocks in ultrasonic examination; Metallic blocks containing artificial defects known in type, shape, size and location consist of two blocks of steel, superalloy and titanium alloy (1 and 2). Artificial defects of various types, shapes and sizes, which are: void, oxide, carbide, matrix-coarse region, compositional error (chemical composition different from matrix block), or artificial defects (6 and 7) consisting of a specific phase of the matrix material It is formed on the surfaces to be adhered of the two blocks to be joined or placed in the gaps (5) which are opened precisely on the surfaces to be adhered. After the defects were generated on these surfaces or placed in the cavities on these surfaces, the blocks were pressed under vacuum, hot pressing method (VHP) or hot isostatic pressing (HIP) method under different temperature, time and stress (load / area) parameters for each type of material. Blocks adhered with VHP or HIP technique to be used as standard test blocks can be used as a calibration block in ultrasonic examination, thus it is possible to identify the internal structure defects of aircraft parts or parts of real systems requiring ultrasonic examination. By defining the errors, it is provided to determine the service life of each of the aircraft parts after ultrasonic examination.
